Fun Bicycle Ride

12th Annual Tour de North Port!

8:00AM EDT - 2:00PM EDT THIS IS NOT A RACE it is a fun bicycle ride among some of the most beautiful pine flatwoods forests that can still be seen in Florida!

Tour de North Port is Canceled

The 2022 Tour de North Port bicycle ride scheduled for Oct. 23 has been cancelled due to Hurricane Ian. It will NOT be rescheduled.

There were a number of factors involved in coming to this decision, the most notably being that our core of volunteers are understandably consumed with and would still be involved with post-hurricane recovery efforts.

Second, our host building for the event, Imagine School, is dealing with damages, as is the case with all of our schools in North Port which have a reopening target date of Oct. 17.

Third, we anticipated there would most likely still be debris piles along the roads of our routes creating hazardous conditions, in addition to newly-formed potholes.

All registrations will be carried over for the 2023 ride (date TBD).

Sponsors: all sponsorships will be carried over to 2023.

We ask for your understanding. The Tour de North Port is our annual fundraiser, in fact the ONLY fundraiser, that supports the work of People for Trees. There are costs associated with the ride that have already been paid out that cannot be recouped.

The People for Trees truck has sustained damage from the hurricane.

We will continue to donate and plant trees, in North Port and beyond.

Some of the tree planting projects we did from this past year include but are not limited to:

Four “Fallen Officer” sweetgum trees for the North Port Police Department.
Ten native trees planted to honor the Ukrainian Community at Wellen Park.
One sweetgum at the dedication for the new Helping Hands building in Englewood.
Street trees for N. Salford Blvd.
This past year we installed NEW Florida-friendly/Pollinator gardens at Atwater Elementary School, Woodland Middle School, North Port High School, the North Port Art Center, and at the YMCA Sunshine Pre-K.

We will cover the maintenance costs for these new tree and garden projects as well as those that were planted years ago i.e. our Commemorative Tree Walk/Arboretum along 41 in North Port, our N. Salford Blvd. street trees, the Pollinator Garden/Tree Walk at Lamarque Elementary.

Thank you, and please be safe out there.
