Fleet Feet Sports, the local retail leader in building and supporting the Sarasota running and physically active community, today announces plans to participate in the brand’s first nationally coordinated 5K race and fun run on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
The Big Run will take place at more than 70 Fleet Feet Sports locations nationwide and locally at Fleet Feet Sports Sarasota. The Big Run allows runners from across the country to compete against each other or compare their times with other runners across the country based on each store’s local race format. The event is designed to unify the efforts of running communities in different locations behind one event, which is estimate to draw more than 10,000 participants. The Big Run coincides with the annual Global Running Day initiative and is open to runners of all levels and abilities.
“We have specifically designed our local Big Run event to accommodate both competitive and recreational runners, as well as walkers,” said Molly Jackson, co-owner of Fleet Feet Sports Sarasota. “Our hope is that the Sarasota community will come out and celebrate this worldwide running day, have some fun and join millions of other runners in lacing up their shoes and getting outside for some exercise.”

How the national Big Run Day national competition works
Fleet Feet will compile results and post times from certified USATF 5K courses at other local Fleet Feet stores across the country. While Fleet Feet Sarasota will not have a certified course for 2017, local runners can still compare their times with the goal of having a local certified 5K course for the 2018 Big Run Day.
