RISE Virtual 5K - AAPI Heritage Month

Sat May 15 - Mon May 31 n/a, FL 33132 US

Description

Join the Rise Virtual 5K to honor AAPI Heritage Month and celebrate the numerous ways Asian American & Pacific Islander women have and continue to influence society. Our goal is to encourage people to celebrate Asian American women who have made an impact in their local community, and acknowledge and uplift strong Asian American women in their life.

This event is put together by Filipina on the Rise. Proceeds support non-profit organization, AAPI Women Lead

  • When: May 15-30, 2021 (Celebration Day is May 30, 2021, where we will be posting on social media platforms and celebrating completions)
  • Where: Anywhere! Your neighborhood, local community, nearby trails, etc. with friends and family
  • How much: $5 Registration (this includes your Sticker, Donation to AAPI Women Lead, certificate, and registration fee)
  • What do I get when I register? You will receive your digital Participant Packet, which includes a digital Ceritficate of Completion and bracelet; you will receive a RISE 5K sticker in the mail
Use your time on the run to learn more about how the Asian American community may have shaped where you live and local places of significance. Take a photo during your run, write down who you're honoring on your bracelet, share it on social media, tag @FilipinaontheRise, use #AAPIHeritageMonth.

This past year we have witnessed a rise of violence against the AAPI community, and that Asian women were disproportionately victimized. Complicit in this is the historical stereotypes of Asian women as docile, submissive and silent. We are countering this by celebrating the strengths of AAPI women and honoring their contributions and impact.

Proceeds will go to AAPI Women Lead, an organization with supports AAPI women and girls with workshops and and research, and promotes movements such as #ImReady, which addresses issues like gender-based and racial discrimination and sexual harassment in the community.
