Description
Take a stroll back with us to January 10, 1944 at the First African Baptist Church, where the members of Gamma Sigma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc., the Rev., Ralph Mark Gilbert and 46 delegates from 20 churches gathered to discuss funds left in the will of Adaline Graham, a local philanthropist to establish an orphanage for African-American children. As we saunter down MLK Boulevard to July, 1949 (opening of Greenbriar), we will be cheered on by many of the founding churches who are still committed to "nurturing children and strengthening families". Our final steps of the walk will take us to the growing campus of Greenbriar Children's Center at 3709 Hopkins Street where the future shines bright for families and children. Join us on this Walk to Greenbriar to commemorate the 75th anniversary and celebrate its future.
