General Information
What is Growler Gallop Atwater?
Growler Gallop Atwater is a 10 Mile and 5K race in downtown Detroit, Michigan. The race starts and finishes at Atwater Brewery (237 Joseph Campau, Detroit, MI 48207) and takes runners along the scenic Detroit Riverwalk. The 10 Mile course also loops around Belle Isle.
When is the race?
Race day is Sunday, September 28, 2025. The race starts at 4:00 PM.
What distances are available?
- 10 Mile – A USATF-certified course along the Detroit Riverwalk and Belle Isle.
- 5K – A flat, fast, and walker- and stroller-friendly course along the Riverwalk.
- Virtual Options – Run anywhere and still earn the Growler Gallop medal and hoodie.
Registration
How do I register?
Register online! You can register in person on race day but hoodie size may be limited.
What does my registration include?
Regular registration includes:
- Participant hoodie (size guaranteed if registered by Sept. 10, 2025)
- Finisher medal (part of the Trivium Mega Medal Series)
- Beer ticket for a post-race Atwater craft brew (21+)
- Chip timing and live results
- Race-day photography
- Post race snacks and drinks
- 10 Mile pacers to help you reach your time goals
Is there an economy registration option?
Yes! Economy registration allows you to skip the hoodie, medal, and beer ticket to save money while still joining the race day fun.
Can I still register if I missed the hoodie deadline?
Yes, but hoodie sizes are only guaranteed for participants registered by September 10, 2025.
Packet Pickup
When is packet pickup?
- Early Packet Pickup: Saturday, September 27, 2025 · 2:00–6:00 PM · Atwater Brewery
- Race Day Packet Pickup & ID Check: Sunday, September 28, 2025 · 1:30–3:40 PM · Atwater Brewery
- If you're in a club with 10+ people and received an email letting you know you have a club tent, your packet will be at your club tent on race day.
What do I need to bring to packet pickup?
Just bring your race week email with your registration/check-in barcode.
Can I pick up someone else's race packet?
Yes! Just have their confirmation email with you.
Can I change my hoodie size during packet pickup?
You cannot change your hoodie size during packet pickup. You can visit the Trivium registration tent after the race has started and exchange your hoodie there if we have your new size available.
When do I do ID check?
Participants 21+ must present ID on race day to receive their beer ticket. After picking up your bib/hoodie, there's a separate line from registration/packet pickup for ID Check. If you picked up your race packet on Saturday or got it at your club tent, go directly to the ID Check line.
Race Day
Where does the race start and finish?
Both the 10 Mile and 5K start and finish at Atwater Brewery in downtown Detroit.
What time does the race start?
- Chariot Start: 3:55 pm
- 10 Mile Start: 4:00 pm
- 5K Start: 4:10 pm
Are there pacers?
Yes! The 10 Mile features pacers from Beast Pacing, covering a wide range of times from 7:00–15:00 min/mile.
Is the 5K walker- and stroller-friendly?
Yes, the 5K course is flat, scenic, and welcoming to walkers and strollers. The course is open for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Clubs & Community
What are the club perks?
Clubs with 10+ registered members by September 14, 2025 receive:
- A team tent in the Club Village with a custom banner
- Dedicated club porta potties
- Registration packets pulled to the tent (skip the lines!)
- Food, drinks, and goodies waiting for your crew
- All clubs, regardless of size, are part of the club competition, where points are earned for finishes, age group placements, and volunteer hours.
What is the Trivium Mega Medal Series?
The Growler Gallop Atwater medal is part of the 6-piece Trivium Mega Medal Series. Complete all six races in the series to connect your medals into one giant display piece.
Charity Partner
Who is the charity partner for 2025?
Our charity partner is The Agape Project, a local nonprofit that provides inclusive racing opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
How can I support The Agape Project?
You can donate during registration or directly at this link. In August 2025, their trailer and racing chairs were stolen, effectively canceling their racing season. Fundraising efforts are helping them recover and possibly borrow racing chairs to still join us at Growler Gallop.
Post-Race
What happens after the race?
Celebrate at Atwater Brewery with your beer ticket, race-day food menu, live music, and a lively post-race atmosphere with fellow runners and walkers.
Are there awards?
