Make Rare Visible Virtual 3K Run/Walk

Mon February 7 - Fri February 25 Keokuk, IA 52632 US Directions

2425 Jackson Ave
Keokuk, IA US 52632

As someone who lives with multiple Rare Diseases and it have taken decades for a diagnosis after misdiagnosis, I have learned to become an advocate for myself and others. There are over 7000 different types of rare diseases! I have made it my mission to educate others on how to become an advocate for themselves and to help #makerarevisible. I have created several campaigns to help others join in on this effort.

On Monday's I wear stripes as the Zebra is the identifiable logo of rare diseases, physicians are taught in medical school to not listen for the hooves of zebra's because they are rare. So, I wear stripes to make Rare Visible. On Wednesday's it is no longer Camel Hump Day but Blue Zebra Wednesdays. I wear blue because my midweek, we are holding our breath to make it through the rest of the week, so we are Blue Zebra's.

Feb 28, 2022 is World Rare Day, so Katelyn Page, Miss Florida Global Continental and I are planning a series of podcasts and this 3K run/walk to raise awareness, to #makerarevisible but also to raise funds for Rare Stride's Rare Wish program. Katelyn too has a rare disease, so she also finds the value in helping with this cause. Rare Strides created Rare Wish to help children and adults with a rare disease be granted a wish, as they don't qualify for other wish granted organizations. Katelyn and I chose the goal to raise $3000 (plus the fees for this event), thus why we selected a 3K run/walk. We hope that you will get out your stripes and walk/run this virtual event. We encourage you to also do this closer to the evening and wear your glow in the dark clothes/jewelry, etc and together we can #makerarevisible.
