Paddle and Run Cancellation

New Date: Saturday, Sept 11, 2021

The inaugural 2020 Jen McKenna Paddle and Run has been canceled due to COVID-19-related issues in Kootenai County. Over the last several months, many local events have canceled causing us to think about our own event. While not an easy decision, it was the right decision.  We are offering athletes two options: deferment to our 2021 event or a full refund.  We all look forward to a bigger event on Sept 11, 2021. We hope you join us.

Here Are Your Options:

We will transfer your registration to Saturday, Sept 11, 2021, and look forward to having you join us. Thanks for your patience!

Thank you so much for considering our event and we sincerely hope you join us next year on Sept 11.

Description

In its inaugural year, join us on Sept 12, 2020, for a new event experience. The Jen McKenna Paddle and Run begins at Sanders Beach in Coeur d'Alene. Participants paddle about 1.85 miles around Tubbs Hill to City Beach. From there, participants run from City Beach, around the park and then west along the Centennial Trail to the turn around just before Riverstone, returning back to the finish in City Park. Run distance is approximately 4.5 miles.  This is an individual or 2-person team (1 paddler, 1 runner) event.  Awards will be given for the top 3 men and women and top male, female, and mixed teams. Participants will also enjoy a post-race event of food and beverages provided local area restaurants.

Jen and her husband, Corey, loved the outdoors, including walks around Tubbs Hill and kayaking. Jen had cystic fibrosis, but she did not let the disease define her or what she was able to do in life.  In February 2019, the couple relocated to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to wait for a double lung transplant.  She received a set on May 23, but due to cystic fibrosis-related complications, Jen McKenna passed away on June 27, 2019, at the age of 41. Proceeds from the event benefit All Heart Infusion of Spokane and Coeur d'Alene and the Children's Organ Transplant Association and children who have cystic fibrosis awaiting a double lung transplant.
