Join us for Tubbs Hill Run/Walk for Team McKenna. Team McKenna is a team of people who are supporting and fundraising for COTA in honor of Jen McKenna.
This Run/Walk is happening to help raise needed funds for COTA in honor ofJen McKenna to assist with transplant-related expenses for Jen McKenna's double lung transplant. Jen has lived her entire life with Cystic Fibrosis. It is a progressive, genetic disease that causes excess mucus to build up in the lungs. In 2000, Jen acquired a bacterial infection that still lingers to this day. Due to the CF, her body cannot find it off like most other people. Over the last few years, the combination of the infection and CF have made her condition much more difficult. So, it was to time to take the next step. In consultation with her CF doctor in Spokane, conversations began happening in early 2018 about a lung transplant. Several hospitals in the US did not accept her as a potential patient until the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill came calling. They invited Jen and her husband, Corey, out to UNC Medical Center for a consultation. Along with Jen's mom, Virginia, they made the journey to Chapel Hill in late December. After conversations with many doctors and hospital personnel, the transplant team accepted Jen as a potential double lung transplant recipient. Jen and her mom relocated to Chapel Hill on Feb 12 to begin the process of getting on the lung transplant waiting list. Jen is on the list today and is waiting for the call.
Jen and husband Corey have partnered with the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) to raise funds to offset medical and non-medical related expenses. COTA helps children and adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
We Chose Tubbs Hill as it one of Jen's favorite places to exercise. Join us as we run/walk for a reason!
