 Who is this for?

We will be donating a large portion of the proceeds from this race to Zachary and Elijah.

Elijah is a two year old boy who was recently diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome. Hunter Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that occurs when an enzyme your body needs is either missing or doesn't work properly. Because the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme to break down certain complex molecules, the molecules build up in harmful amounts in certain cells and tissues. The buildup that occurs in Hunter Syndrome eventually causes permanent, progressive damage affecting appearance, mental development, organ function and physical abilities. There's no cure for Hunter Syndrome. Treatment of Hunter Syndrome involves management of symptoms and complications. There are only 2,000 people in the world who have been diagnosed with this devastating, progressive illness. He will need to have a very expensive enzyme replacement therapy once a week for the rest of his life, in addition to other medical tests and treatments. Elijah's family will use the proceeds to pay for his weekly enzyme therapy treatments, gas to get to and from medical appointments, as well as to help off set the cost of other medical expenses.

Zachary is a three year old boy who was recently diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder. Most of us without thinking learn to merge our senses in order to make good judgment of our surroundings. Children with SPD have trouble learning to do this naturally. Sensory Integration Therapy is a type of Occupational Therapy that incorporates the use of different types of equipment in a room designed purposefully to stimulate and challenge all the child's senses. During a therapy session, children are encouraged to move about the room and use the Sensory Equipment. The theory behind sensory integration therapy is based on the idea that the child is either over stimulated or under stimulated by the environment. Therefore the objective of therapy is to develop the capability of the brain to process information from his or her surroundings. This will help the child enhance function in his daily activities.  Zachary's family will use the proceeds to help pay for his Sensory Integration Therapy and gas to get to and from his appointments as well as to create a sensory room and sensory friendly equipment at home for Zachary.
