Description

This virtual race is organized by the Staff Engagement Committee. Our goal is raise funds for two separate charities, and to run, walk, bike, paddle, or ski a total of 1,665 miles together (the total width of Ukraine and Argentina combined). We will split the donation 50/50 between these two charities.

TECHO: Also known as Un Techo para mi País (UTPMP) (Spanish for A Roof For My Country), is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes youth volunteers to fight extreme poverty in Latin America, by constructing transitional housing and implementing social inclusion programs. Working with more than 500,000 volunteers, it has constructed houses for more than 86,000 families in 19 countries. Each year our IES Abroad students volunteer with TECHO during their semester abroad in Buenos Aires.

Global Empowerment Mission (GEM): A well-established disaster relief organization who raises funds for global disasters. Their aid to Ukraine goes to importing and purchasing food, water, medicine, and other basic necessities to those in war zones, as well as relocation assistance, providing stable housing, and evacuating non-Ukrainian refugees whose visa statuses have made it difficult for them to leave Ukraine.
