This event is designed for Division III programs to gain experience in NCAA draft legal racing, competing with other DIII programs. The course is contained within a beautiful park scape setting. The 750m swim will take place in Lake Decatur with beach entry and exit. Water temperature averages 72 degrees on this date. The 20k bike will be a hilly and technical four loop course. The 5k run will be a 2 loop fast and flat course along the lake shore. The lap out rule will be waived for this event to give every athlete the opportunity to finish a full course in a DIII context.
There are a number of hotels that are an easy drive to Nelson Park. Here are a few:
If you want to search options for chains you may have rewards with, you can search Decatur, Forsyth and Mt. Zion. They are all technically Decatur and will put you close to Nelson Park.
On pre-race day, the teams will be allowed to use the large lot at the marina/Beach House as they preview the course. Any specific questions about race day parking can be answered at the pre-race meeting on Friday at 5:30 near the Beach House Restaurant.
Day of the race, teams may park in the overflow space above the boat launch or in the two available parking lots. Volunteers and spectators should plan to park at the Devon Amphitheater or in the upper lot off Cantrell (at the dog park). The Cantrell lot will be the only lot with in/out access during the race as the barricade will be just after the lot opening off Cantrell and can be navigated without entering the race course.
