Description

Join the Live4Love Aquatics team (L4LA) at Lake Clare for The Huntington Mile Open Water Swim Series. The 2023 race date for The Huntington Mile Open Water Swim Series Race is Sunday, September 10th at 9am

In addition to the The Huntington Mile race date, the Live4Love Aquatics team will return for a 5th season to offer  #SummerSundays2023 open water swim practices! Practice dates will run from May 14th - September 24th, 2023. Sign up for the Summer Sundays Season Pass (link above) and receive the discounted price until 05/07/2023. 

About the Venue:

Lake Clare is a 65+ acre piece of land located on the Huntington Township west line that offers the county a natural resource for their members and neighbors to enjoy the outdoors. Recreational features such as hiking trails, pavilions, fitness park, playground, fishing waters, picnic areas with grills, and kayak/SUP rentals (to name a few) attract area residents and visitors to Lake Clare year round. Heritage and legacy encompass the grounds of one of Huntington's most attractive natural resources. Lake Clare is the home training waters to past legendary coach, Glen Hummer; multiple Olympians; current master endurance swimmers; and USAT pro triathletes. 

Lake Clare offers phenomenal spectator courses with views on shore above the swimmers!

Registration/Packet Pickup

Race Day Packet pick up begins at 7:00am
Race Day Registration: 6:45am-8:00am

*Bring a photo ID and your USMS License (if applicable and/or you have one) to packet pickup and registration.

NOTE: Due to low registration and request for lower entry fees, The Huntington Mile 2023 will not be sanctioned by USMS.

*USMS waivers (when applicable); one day USMS one time event (OEVT) license (when applicable); and USMS Covid-19 Attendee Screening Form (when applicable) will be taken care of here and day of race (if applicable). 
*Cash, check and credit card payments will have a 3% fee added to registrations.

Youth divisions are not available for race event at this time. We will continue with our efforts to add 18 and Under USA qualifiers to the race event. Youth 14+ years old are welcome to join Summer Sunday practices and any of the remaining services offered by Live4Love. Explore Live4Love Sessions & Services 

CLOTHING

*Males must wear speedo-cut bottoms, jammers, or shorts at minimum. 
*Shirtless torsos are allowed for men only.
*Females must wear swim suit bottoms and public swimming appropriate tops at minimum.

COURSES

All distance courses are configured in an out-and-back triangular style loop, marked by large buoys on the corners and sighting buoys in between. Buoys will be colored and indicative to the distance and cap color.  For all races: the start and the finish takes place on the beach. This is considered a running beach start/finish.

RULES

Current 2023 U.S. Masters Swimming Open Water and Long Distance and USA Swimming rules will govern this event. Swimmers must wear the swim cap provided, have their race numbers on their arms, and follow all announced safety rules without exception.  Wetsuits/skin suits will be permitted (within USA and USMS temperature guidelines). NOTE: Due to low registration and request for lower entry fees, The Huntington Mile 2023 will not be sanctioned by USMS but rules and regulations will remain as our safety and reporting measures in place.

ENTRIES

Online registration will remain open until Sunday, September 10th, 2023. Registration will close at 6:30am. T-shirts are not guaranteed after September 3rd, 2023.  

ENTRY FEES

The entry fees cover safety & rescue (water craft, lifeguards, dive team, EMT), course equipment, USMS and USA Swimming sanctioning (when applicable), officials/referees, event insurance, race shirts, swim caps, swag, awards, chip timing and/or post-race food & drink. Price increases the closer we get to race day.  Early Registration closes 7 days prior to the event. Online registration will remain open until race day (cash, check, debit/credit card accepted). CHIP TIMING & HAND TIMERS

When participation is above 20 swimmers - Our races will be chip timed by RaceMaker.  Each swimmer will wear an ankle bracelet with a chip attached. Your individual chip time starts when you cross the mat to enter the water and stops when you cross the mat coming out of the water. Timing chips will be given out in race bags for pre-registered swimmers. Race Day: give as you register. - 2023 - we are still growing! Hand timers will be used to record swimmers time. 

NUMBERING

All participants must be body marked race morning with a permanent marker by a volunteer, and will receive a swim cap at packet pickup that is mandatory to wear during the race with their number on it.

SAFETY

Safety support will be coordinated with professional emergency services and volunteers. Swimmers will be briefed on all safety aspects before the start of the race. Race officials have the authority to postpone or cancel the event for safety reasons.  Officials, Lifeguards, Referees, and other safety personnel will line the courses. The personnel and volunteers will be on kayaks, paddle boards, and/or John Boat. For safety reasons, those not able to complete the 2 Mile distance in 2 hours 30 minutes are advised not to enter this division; you will be listed in the results as DNF if you exceed this time. Our recommendation is to participate in a shorter distance division or come train with Live4Love during our Sunday open water swim practices this season!

REFUND POLICY

There are no refunds or deferrals for this event, no exceptions. In the case of inclement weather or other unexpected circumstances, the race director has the right to cancel the race or shorten the event. In this case there will be no refunds provided. In signing up for this event, the participants are agreeing to these terms.

CHECK IN & MANDATORY MEETING

All swimmers must check in at the starting location at least 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the race. All swimmers will be required to attend the final pre-race briefing 30 minutes before the start of the first race. Failure to arrive on time for the briefing could result in disqualification.

RESULTS

Post-race results will be posted on this website and will be put up on display at the race site as soon as available

RESTROOMS

There will be restrooms on site. 
 

T-SHIRTS, MEDALS/RIBBONS, AWARDS

T-Shirts will be in the race packet (limited)
Swim Caps will be in the race packet
Awards for top 3 in each race (Male & Female divisions).  There are no relays in this event.

 

FOOD AND WATER

There will be no Food Truck for the 2023 race. Food Truck or Concessions will return in 2024. 

Water will be available at the concession stand and first aid station.
LIMITED water will be available on the swim course by means of spotter/monitor, so please plan accordingly. 
Drinks, some snack food, and breakfast will be available pre and post-race at the start/finish line for swimmers and volunteers only.
 

​CONTINGENCY PLANS

There will be no rain dates and no refunds 30 days prior to race day. Balance can be applied to any other L4L scheduled activities, including future race dates. 

USMS Rules - 2023 races are not sanctioned by USMS due to low registration and request for lower entry fees. However, we will be following USMS open water swim rules. 

A complete list of USMS rules can be found at www.usms.org  Rules will be gone over at the pre-race meeting on Saturday.

Open water swim practice begins at 1pm. Right now we are offering the early bird rate for everyone! Price increase May 7th. All experienced swimmers 14 years old and up are welcome!
