The Speed Project 2024 offers a comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing participants' speed and overall running performance in the 5K distance. Through guided training plans, athletes will learn to improve their efficiency and speed on the track, while also focusing on maintaining proper form during intense workouts. In addition to track exercises, the program covers essential topics such as hydration, dynamic warm-ups, cool-downs, and body maintenance, ensuring participants have the necessary tools to succeed and remain injury-free. This holistic approach promises not only enhanced performance but also long-term running development. We will also have Footwear reps out on workout nights to allow you to demo the latest and greatest performance shoes that the brands carry.

We will meet for 6 weeks on Tuesdays at 5:45 pm starting on September 17 through October 22nd at Jesus Hernandez Community Track (the one on West Lafayette High School campus). The target race will be for the Purdue 5K, but anyone can sign up and join to try and improve your 5K time.

The "Run"down

The Speed Project will meet every Tuesday for 6 weeks leading up to the Purdue 5K and Half Marathon.

We will meet at 5:45 pm with the intention of starting our running by 6 pm. All of the workouts will be on the track while our warmup and cooldowns will consist of running on the track as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. We will have experts from Athletico out to show us the proper dynamic warmup techniques as well as how to deal with those aching injuries from running.

Brooks, Asics, and Oofos (so far) have committed to attending a training session to allow you to demo the newest shoes that are ideal for race day.

Signing up for this program does not include entry into the Purdue 5K.
