2023 Update:

Race Headquarters for 2023 is at the National Federation of Fitness and Sport (NIFS).  NIFS is three buildings west of the Indiana State Museum - the former host site for Indy Piston in 2021 and 2022.  Why did the location change?  Several positive benefits!!  Here's a few:
1. Indoor restrooms and locker rooms with showers! during NIFS business hours.  They are open from 7:00am-5:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.
2. A paved patio for our main aid station to enable us to better accommodate all Indy Piston participants.
3. We determined the most congested area of the old course utilized by other WRSP patrons was right by the Indiana State Museum.  Moving to NIFS removes that section of the course to help increase safety and provide a better overall experience for Indy Piston participants.
4. Packet pickup will be at NIFS on Friday evening from 4:00pm-7:00pm.  This will allow participants to preview the venue and course layout in the daylight before the race.

AID STATIONS - Aid stations are for registered participants and their pacers.  Bib numbers must be visible in order to access the aid station area.  Participants will pass the base camp aid station at the beginning of each lap, and a hydration aid station at the turn around.

AWARDS - All finisher awards are presented and pictures taken immediately after each participant completes the race.  Set a new record for any ultra distance and receive a free 2024 Indy Piston Endurance Run race entry!

BIB NUMBERS - Bib numbers will be assigned according to each race distance.

COURSE - The course is flat on solid paved surfaces, with the exception of 100' of grass at race headquarters.  The start/finish line is on a sidewalk to better accomodate all Indy Piston participants.  Lamp posts light the entire course, but we do highly recommend the use of a headlamp and rear-facing red light so others can see you during the night.  Approximately 1/10 mile of the course is a sidewalk along a street.  The rest of the course is a pedestrian path away from streets and vehicle traffic.  There are no road crossings along the route.  https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2163466

DISTANCE CHANGE - Participants may change their registered distance at any time through packet pick up, as long as remaining spots are still available for that distance.  If you are dropping down a distance, or changing to virtual, there are no partial refunds.  If you are going up a distance, you will pay the difference of what you originally paid, to the current price of the distance you are changing to.

DROPPING OUT - Completing an ultramarathon is an enormous task and sometimes things happen and you may not be able to complete the distance you set out for.  If this happens, you must drop out at the start/finish area and notify the race timer that you have stopped.  You will not be eligible for overall or age group awards, but you will receive a finisher medal as long as you have completed at least 50k.

DROP BAGS - You can keep your drop bag at your self aid camp in the start/finish area, or just support out of your vehicle in the parking garage.  Camp is located directly along the course, and the parking garage is underground below the camp area.  Garage access is right next to the course.  You will have access to your drop bag each loop, which is just under four miles per loop.

FINISHING - As you complete the final lap of your set distance, you must stay to the right and enter the finisher area to receive your award, placement, and finisher photo.

HEADPHONES - Headphones are strongly discouraged, but not prohibited.  If you choose to wear them, please use common sense and pay attention to your surroundings at all times.

ITEMS LEFT BEHIND - Please take all your items with you after you have completed the race.  Any items left after the conclusion of the event will either be donated or disposed of.

LATE START - We have participant caps in each distance and start time to help avoid overcrowding.  All participants must start at the time they registered for (Either 6:00am or 8:00pm).  If you are registered for the 6:00am start, you must start at 6:00am.

LEAVING THE COURSE - Participants are not permitted to leave the course at any time unless they drop out or have finished the race.  Any participant violating the rules will be disqualified.  The start/finish area, drop bag camp, and the Riverwalk parking garage are considered part of the course.  You are allowed to exit the loop to refuel, sleep, etc. via the camp area entrance/exit.  You must also resume the loop from the camp area entrance/exit.

LIGHTING - The course loop is lit with overhead lighting.  However, White River State Park is open to the public and you will be sharing the paths with other users.  We recommend having a light available to use at any time.  We strongly advise participants running at night to have a headlamp or flashlight, wear reflective clothing, and have a red tail lamp for safety.  A RMP staff member and security officers will be mobile on the course throughout the event and your light helps us see you!

LITTER - There are several trash and recycling bins along the route.  Please ensure all waste items are disposed properly.  Anyone caught littering will be disqualified.

LOCAL TIME ZONE - Indianapolis is in Eastern Standard Time Zone and observes Daylight Savings Time.

MEDICAL - There will be first aid supplies on site at the start/finish area throughout the entire event and local EMS is one block away that is aware of our event and ready to respond if we call.  There are also multiple hospitals within one mile of the venue in case of emergency.  Participants are required to bring their own specific medications, foot care, bandages, and any other personal items.

NIGHT TIME COURSE SUPPORT - There will be police officers patrolling the area.  There will also be RaceMaker Productions staff on bicycles to provide limited assistance, if needed.

PACERS - Each participant in any distance is allowed to have pacers.  Pacers may support their participant at race headquarters at anytime throughout the race.  Pacers may begin running with their participant after 9:00am.  Restricting the course to only participants in the beginning of the race helps ensure adequate space on the course.  Participants may have multiple pacers, however, only one pacer is permitted to run with the participant at a time.  This also helps control crowing on the course.  You must complete a pacer registration for each of your pacers.  It's free, but this provides us their name, and emergency contact info in case they have an emergency.  Pacers must wear an assigned bib, fully visible on the front of their body at all times when on the course.  Pacers are entitled to the same aid support as registered runners as long as their bib is visible.

PARKING - Parking is available in multiple nearby areas.  Our recommendation is to park in the Riverwalk Parking Garage.  This is the closest parking to the start/finish area available and is part of the official course area for those who plan to use their vehicle as their drop bag and self support camp.

PRE RACE CHECK IN - Packet pickup will be held at NIFS on Friday June 2nd from 4:00pm-7:00pm.

REGISTRATION REFUNDS/DEFERMENTS - There are no refunds.  Participants may change events at any time through packet pick up.  If you are dropping down a distance, or switching to virtual, there are no partial refunds.  If you are going up a distance, you will pay the the current price of the distance you are changing to minus the amount you originally paid.  If you cannot participate in the 2023 Indy Piston Endurance Run, cancel your registration ASAP.  If you cancel before May 3rd 11:59pm, 50% of your entrance fee can be used as a credit towards the 2024 Indy Piston Endurance Run or any other RMP owned event.

RESTROOMS - Restroom facilities are available along the course in the start/finish area.  Locker rooms and shower facilities are available from 7:00am-5:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

RESULTS - Your timing tag is located on the back of your race bib.  Please make sure your bib is visible on the front of your body at all times while on the course.  Laps are recorded each time you cross the timing mats.  Preliminary live results will be available on the race website throughout the event.  Finalized results will be posted on the race website at the conclusion of the event.

SELF SUPPORT TENTS/CANOPIES - There is a marked area for tents at the start/finish area.  The maximum size is 10x10 per registered runner.  Participants may use weights to secure their tent, but no stakes as there are buried utilities in the area.  Due to WRSP guidelines, personal generators and grills/open flame are not permitted and there are not any electrical outlets available for use.  Setup in the area is first come, first serve and will open at 4:30am on Saturday, June 4th.  Please clean your area after you finish the race.  All items must be removed by 1:00pm on Sunday, June 5th.

SHOWERS - Available for 2023!  We are excited to relocate to NIFS to be able to provide locker rooms to all Indy Piston participants during the 2023 event.  Please note locker room access will be available during their business hours 7:00am - 5:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.
