BTC Group Runs

Mon January 1 - Tue December 31, 2024 Birmingham, AL 35253 US

Description

To further the mission of the Birmingham Track Club, we host multiple group runs. These runs may be part of a programmed training plan or simply a way to get together with fellow runners. Unless otherwise noted (which is rare), all group runs are free of charge and no registration is required. Everyone is invited regardless of membership in the BTC. Just show up and run with us. Look below for more details about our runs.

Saturday Long Run

This is the group run for you if you're training for anything from a half marathon on up. Once or twice a year we pick a goal marathon/half marathon and follow a training plan for Saturday long runs. Typical distances start at around 8 miles at the beginning of a training cycle and range up to 22 miles as the marathon nears. Half marathon training distances are adjusted according to a half-marathon training schedule. We usually have two distances planned so you can choose based on your goal race. All paces are welcome but we target between 8:00 and 12:00 minutes per mile. While everyone is welcome, please understand that this is not considered a run for beginners. Water stops are provided by volunteers who place water and sports drink at designated locations along the route. (Hit up the Volunteer menu to see how you can contribute!) For more information, feel free to contact the coordinator at longruns@birminghamtrackclub.com or look for more info on the Birmingham Track Club Saturday Morning Long Run Facebook group.

For our Fall 2024 race, we are training for the BHM 26.2 on October 6 from the Hoover Met! This is our hometown race, and we are excited to train for it! Reminder that BTC members automatically get 10% off race registration! Official training kicks off on June 15 at 16 weeks out from the marathon. We plan to follow the below training schedule for our weekly runs. Please note that the dates are on Sundays (like the race) but our long runs are on Saturdays and that the mileage could slightly change.

And as always, feel free to add on/edit/start early from the posted routes to best suit your personal training goals!

Here is the Trak Shak 3 Mile Route and the Trak Shak 5 Mile Route. These are a good way to add on mileage if needed!

Saturday Moderate Run

Maybe you're not ready for a marathon or you just want some friendly fellowship as part of a group run. The moderate run targets beginning runners as well as those who want to increase their mileage a bit. Distances usually range from 3 to 8 miles. For more information, feel free to contact the coordinator at moderateruns@birminghamtrackclub.com.

Most social runs are accompanied by prize drawings that may include free swag, gift cards to local businesses that support the BTC, free race entries and more.
