Hartford GAA Virtual 5K Run

Join us for the Hartford GAA Virtual 5K 2020 Run!

This event is organized in memory of the late Hartford GAA player Andrew Stuerzel, who unexpectedly passed away recently. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to honor Andrew’s competitive spirit on the field and passion for helping those in need than with this community running event with proceeds going to charity.  

The proceeds for this event will be donated in Andrew’s memory to Hands on Hartford.* Hands On Hartford is a social service nonprofit organization that serves Hartford’s most economically challenged residents in the areas of food, housing, and health (see website for more info). Please note that there is also an option to donate an additional amount to the registration fee or to donate without participating in the event.

This is a virtual event – run or walk, indoor or outdoor – over 5 km (or 3.1 miles!).

You can complete the event at your convenience during the month of June. You can run as many 5 K's or as many miles as you like.  Here’s what’s up for grabs!

1. Top the Speed Leaderboard by posting the fastest time

2. Show your mental and physical toughness by posting the most miles during the month to top the Endurance Leaderboard

3. Help us achieve our total Team Goal of 1,914 miles [the year Hartford GAA was established]

Posting of results is optional but participants are encouraged to do so, not least to help meet our Team Goal! The race is based on the honor system, so please post true results through RunSignUp. 

Please email us (at hartfordgaelic@gmail.com) with a post-run selfie of your sweaty self for our Facebook page, or just post directly to our page. We will post regular updates on Leaderboard standings to our Facebook page.

Participants can opt in to receive a special commemorative medal after the event to celebrate your contribution to a very worthy cause, in memory of Andrew.  

*Proceeds to the charitable cause will be made after deductions from the registration fee to cover administrative expenses at cost, which include the RunSignUp processing fees, costs of the commemorative medal, postage and packaging costs. Hartford GAA is honored to donate $500 towards defraying the cost of these administrative expenses so that as much of your money goes towards the charitable cause as possible.
