Costs & Overview
We want to keep this small enough to manageable: we'll be running on the shoulder for parts of the run, and it's unkown territory, so we don't want anyone to fall too far behind at any point. Because of that, as well as the logistics of hotels & coordinating drivers/crew stops/run hand-offs, we will have a (fairly low) limit on runners. However, if there is more interest, you are welcome to invite anyone to make their own arrangements to join us in Newport for the evening (and perhaps they'll get more time to enjoy the city while we're running) and/or meet us for a few miles at the end.
For runners looking to run less than the total distance, we will try to coordinate hand-off's at one of the 3 intermediate stops.
For non-runners & partial runners, we will try to find you some potential adventures along the way so that you can have more fun than those of us running.
Associated Costs:
Gas: Please contribute to your driver. I am bad at how much that costs, but for a full car, say $20-ish
Hotel(s): Depends somewhat on #'s per room and the decision for Friday night, but should not be over $100 for both nights unless you choose to stay somewhere fancy on your own, or want your own room.
Food/Drinks: Your choice.
Shirts: We can do a shirt if people want. Please weigh in.
There is no fee for running, but we are encouraging donations to the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, RI. Just cause we figured we might as well be nice to the state, since it's going to let us run all the way across it.
Description
Outline of the plan:
Friday, October 17th
Travel: Drive up from Philadelphia. It's about a 4.5 hour drive; if some people want to leave early, one car could be a half-day-of-work car; otherwise, we'll head up just after work.
Sleep: Up for discussion. Originally intended to camp, but would need to seek an alternate campground (orignal one is closed for the season), and camping requires sleeping bag/a lot of additional gear to travel with. There is a cheap ($110/night/room) motel 6 miles from the start.
Saturday, October 18th
Start: 8-9am, from the Connecticut/RI border at Route 101. Route Map
Stop 1: 11.5 Miles in, at Famous Pizza at the intersection of 101 & 116.
Stop 2: 20-21 Miles: Providence Lunch Stop. We can research a good spot along the general route; there will be lots of options.
Stop 3: 28.5 Miles: Scialo's Bakery, Willet Ave & Forbes Rd
Run Finish: 38ish Miles, at the ocean.
Saturday Night: It's about a 30 minute drive from the beach to Newport. I have 2 hotel rooms reserved at the Pineapple Inn. There are nicer places closer to the center of town; however, what I found required a minimum 2 night stay...so it looks like we're about a $10 cab ride from where we will likely want to get dinner/hang out. Hotel rooms are $140 each, with the intention of 4-ish per room.
Sunday, October 19th
Leisurely breakfast and/or stroll around town before heading back South.
Place
East Killingly, CT US 06243
