Description

Races continue to be cancelled or postponed, leaving many runners/walkers missing races and many charities missing out on needed donations. So, in order to satisfy rectifying both of those items, ask yourself "why not another virtual race?"

Well, let's switch things up a bit. Let's do a virtual beer run. How will this work? Actually, it will be quite easy. No permits to pull, since you will be drinking the beer (or whichever option you choose in registration) in your own driveway, and you will only need to map out a 0.13 mile route out from your house, as you will need to return to drink your beverage at every 0.25 of the race. The race director recommends using sidewalks since most of you will be drinking alcohol. So here are some additional details.

There will be two different groupings of sign-ups, and you will have optional subgroups to join in those two groupings. They are:

1. The alcoholic beer run. Here you will drink 1 full canned alcoholic beverage at the completion of each 0.25 "lap" of the run (totaling 4 beverages). Subgroups will be: Beer, Seltzer/Cider, Wine, Mixed. For Beer/Seltzer/Cider, you will need to drink a 12oz can/bottle at each drink point. For wine, you will need to have 4 of the "mini" wine bottles sold in 4 packs and have one at each stop (try to get sparkling to match the carbonated beer/seltzer/cider). The runner/walker is required to obtain their own beverages, as they are not included in registration (since this is a virtual run)

2. The non-alcoholic "beer" run. This is for those who don't drink, or for kids to participate. Here you will drink 1 full canned "beer" beverage at the completion of each 0.25 "lap" of the run (totaling 4 beverages). Subgroups will be: Non-Alcoholic Beer (adults only) and Soda category (must be either root beer or birch beer sodas due to the name). The runner/walker is required to obtain their own beverages, as they are not included in registration (since this is a virtual run)

Here are the logistics: You will need someone with you to take photos of the event (for proof of drink completions and to share on Facebook, if you allow). Before you start, take a photo holding all 4 full beverages. You will start your race/timing when you crack open the first beverage. Drink the first beverage, run 0.25 mi, drink second beverage, run 0.25 mi, drink third beverage, run 0.25 mi, drink fourth (and final beverage), run 0.25 mi to finish (end timing - make sure you are at 1 mile). At each drink point, your photographer will take your photo of your finished beverage held upside down (to show it is empty).

Once the race is complete, you will email in the photos and a photo/screenshot of your run (watch face, Garmin, strava, etc) showing 1.00 mile run and your time. Everyone who participates and completes their run/walk will get a commemorative medal mailed to them. Instructions on how to send in your proof will be sent to registrants via email.

All remaining race funds after the cost of the medals/shipping will be used to purchase cat and dog food and supplies for CT Cat Connection and Protector of Animals.

Registration will be open from May 22 until October 30th. Your beer mile must be completed between June 1st and October 31st, and results will be posted shortly after.
