Who Are We?
SUN Scholars Inc., is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has dedicated itself to serving college-age foster and adopted youth in the State of Connecticut. Uniquely, our staff members are all former foster and adopted youth, which ensures that the students are working with those who understand the life they live. We at Sun Scholars believe in validating the youth's lived experiences, while also acknowledging and celebrating all dynamics of their identity and work towards building a community of acceptance and community collective success.
We tackle the social inequities alumni of the foster care often face through community based approaches to cultivating self-efficacy, self-regard, and move individuals forward on the process to self-actualization. We pride ourselves in our unique mentoring strategies, which include trauma-informed and multi-cultural pedagogical approaches to supporting our college age youth.
All donations will be going directly into programmatic expenses that will allow for the enrichment of our impact on the community, and allow us to better serve our students.
Due to COVID-19 and our dedication to doing our part in stopping the spread, this race is virtual. You as the participant have full control over where you would like to run, we ask that you stay on sidewalks and run in areas that are safe for pedestrians. Avoid areas that are dense with fast moving traffic and running on the road, wear bright colors, and adhere to pedestrian safety laws. If you are running in the Connecticut area there a lot of scenic runner friendly areas, if you are running in a different state, we advise that you find a local park or trail that will provide you with the safety you need.
