A virtual race across Delaware. Run your own route anywhere - in your neighborhood, on your favorite trail, through a local or state park, on the beach, or even on your treadmill.

Description

Though we may all be staying at home, we are still a community, and we can still support each other. Join us on June 20, 2020 for the Delaware COVID Relief 5k Run and Walk! All proceeds will be donated to the COVID-19 Strategic Relief Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation.

Not only is this a good opportunity to get active while social distancing, it is also a great way to help your Delaware community. Run or walk in your own house, neighborhood, or local park! Set your own start time and pace, and send us a picture when you’ve crossed your own personal finish line. We may all be participating separately, but we will be working together to stay healthy and to support our local neighborhoods. #runwithdelaware #delawarecovidreliefrun #runapartstandtogether

What is a virtual race? How does it work?

A virtual race means that you get to choose your own route! Our virtual race lets us come together as a community while still social distancing. Here's how it works:

1. You will get a bib number when you sign up. Download our bib template and get creative with your design!

2. All the activity happens on Race Day, June 20: everyone who signed up will participate in the Delaware COVID Relief 5k Run & Walk.

3. You get to run or walk your own route! This could be anywhere - in your neighborhood, on your favorite trail, through a local or state park, on the beach, or even on your treadmill. Just make sure you run safely and follow all distancing guidelines!

4. You get to set your own start time and run or walk the 5k at your own pace.

5. If you would like to, submit pictures and/or videos as you run or walk to our email (delawarecovidreliefrun@gmail.com), or by tagging us on social media (@rundelaware) to be featured on Race Day!

6. If you would like to, submit your 5k time through email, text message or on the website (you will be sent instructions when you register) to see how you did!

FAQ

1. Where is my money going?

All proceeds will be donated to the COVID-19 Strategic Relief Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation. The Strategic Response Fund targets the state of Delaware's most impacted communities, and has awarded over $1.75 million to 80 Delaware nonprofits since launching on March 27th. You can learn more about DCF's work here.

2. Will I receive anything for having participated in the race?

We are proud to offer you a certificate to commemorate your participation in the Delaware COVID Relief 5k Run and Walk. While it is customary to provide a giveaway to participants, we want to ensure that all possible proceeds go to the COVID-19 Strategic Relief Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation. Our ultimate goal is relief for those most affected by COVID-19 in Delaware.

3. Will I receive a bib to wear for race day?

You will automatically receive a bib number when you register for the Delaware COVID Relief 5k Run and Walk. We encourage you to print out and design your own bib. This is a great opportunity to have fun and be creative! Involve the kids in your family! Email us a picture of your bib or tag us on Instagram or Twitter, and we will share the best designs of the day.

4. Can I sign-up to run with a team?

Yes! Even though we are running this race while socially distancing, you can still join or create a team. Your team could be your family, a group of friends, a group of co-workers, or even your high school sports team! Teams will be featured the day of the event on our social media pages. Perks of joining a team include: motivating each other to complete the 5k; coordinating what time you all run or walk your 5k race; sharing your routes; coordinating your bibs; and many more!

5. Is this a competitive race?

This race is as competitive as you want it to be! We will be posting self-reported times in the Results section of this site on Race Day. The important thing is that everyone has a reason to get active and get outside while building a sense of community and supporting a great cause.

6. Do I have to run to participate?

No, you don’t have to run. You could walk or jog - remember that you are setting your own pace and choosing a running environment that is comfortable for you.

7. How do I find the Delaware COVID Relief 5k Run and Walk on social media?

You can find us on Instagram at @rundelaware; on Twitter at @RunDelaware. Our Facebook Event page is here

Make sure to follow us on social media by the day of the race! We will be posting all the pictures our runners send in.

8. How long is a 5k?

A 5k race is 3.1 miles! You can use sites like MapMyRun or Strava to map out your 5k route.

9. Can I donate directly to the COVID-19 Strategic Relief Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation?

Yes! You can make a direct donation to the fund here.

10. Can I still participate if I cannot afford the entry fee?

We would love to have you participate! One of the goals of this race is to build community, so please reach out to us at delawarecovidreliefrun@gmail.com for information on sponsorship opportunities!

Bibs

Since this is a virtual event, we will not be handing out bibs on Race Day. Instead, we're providing you with a bib template that you can download and design for yourself! Be as creative and fun with your design as you would like to be, and share them with us on or before June 20. We will be highlighting our favorite designs, so make sure to send a picture of your bib to our email (delawarecovidreliefrun@gmail.com) or tag us on social media (@rundelaware)!
