Florida Fort to Fort Cycling Challenge

Mon June 15 - Thu December 31 Clermont, FL 34712 US

Place

1271 COMMONS CT
Clermont, FL US 34712

Description

With very few cycling events taking place in real time this summer, we decided to create a virtual cycling challenge for you to help keep your training on track while experiencing a "Tour de Florida" as you bike from fort to fort. Bike the entire length of Florida in the 875 mile Virtual Florida Fort to Fort Cycling Challenge!  I know that's lots of miles, but remember Florida is a very long state!  Your virtual bike tour will start at Historic Fort Pickens on the western end of the Florida Panhandle in Pensacola, and finish in Key West on the southern tip of Florida at Fort Zachary Taylor!

If you are not quite ready for the the 875 mile challenge, you can complete half the distance by logging miles for either the northern stage, or the southern stage.

Due to the popularity of this event, we've extended registration and completion dates. You'll have 12 weeks to complete the challenge. You'll have until 11:59 p.m. December 31st to complete your miles. We encourage you to complete your ride in 12 weeks, or to an average of about 70 miles a week. If that is way too many miles for you to bike, then grab a couple of friends and sign-up for a relay team.  You can have up to 4 members and each member's bike miles count towards the total.

Don't worry, if you cannot make the entire distance we'll have additional finish points that will allow you to receive a medal. The first will be in Central Florida and the second one in South Florida.  If you make it all the way down to Key West you'll also earn a bonus "Fort 2 Fort" swag item.  All participants will also receive a gender specific tech T-shirt, race bib, several badges, a decal, and more!

You can complete your bike miles anywhere and anytime starting on June 15.  Bike indoors or outdoors, on a real bike or trainer, all miles count!   In early June all participants will receive a unique link to use to upload their mileage and time.  We'll also have a leader board, cumulative distances/times for each cyclist, and more online.

Amenities

Each participant including relay team members will receive a gender specific Tech T-shirt, race bib, decal, and custom finisher medal.  Badges will also be awarded when you reach pre-established milestones and points of interest along your virtual route.

Course Map

Even though this is a virtual event, we've created a scenic course that you could actually ride. This is a virtual "Tour de Florida."

We'll also prepare flyovers of several segments and have downloads available so you can actually ride portions of the course on your trainer.

Celebrate milestones and scenic or historic points on the course and earn super cool badges.

Giving back and paying it forward with is an important part of Sommer Sports mission. We partner with organizations that share our "be inspiring" philosophy.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. With the impact of COVID-19, Bike MS events have been disrupted as well. A portion of every registration from Fort to Fort will benefit Bike MS.

Bike MS is the largest fundraising bike series in the world. Each year, nearly 75,000 cyclists and more than 6,000 teams ride together to change the world for people with MS. Bike MS is the fundraising cycling series of the National MS Society and raises more money than any other cycling event for any other cause. To date, Bike MS cyclists, volunteers, and donors have raised more than $1.3 billion to stop MS in its tracks, restore what's been lost, and end MS forever.

Route distances vary from 15 to 150 miles, with some rides being one or multi-days. One thing is certain: You will have the ride of your life no matter which Bike MS event you choose, and your efforts will make a difference in the lives of people affected by MS.

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There is currently no cure for MS. Symptoms vary from person to person and range from numbness and tingling, to mobility challenges, blindness and paralysis. An estimated 1 million people live with MS in the United States. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50 and it affects women three times more than men.

The National MS Society, founded in 1946, funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, and provides programs and services to help people affected by MS live their best lives.
