Place

1 Aerospace Blvd
Daytona Beach, FL US 32114

Description

Looking for a race/walk that inspires you? The Set to the Sky: Zach Capra Trail Run on Saturday, March 25, 2023 will honor Zachary Michael Capra, a Navy veteran and student in the Embry-Riddle flight program who dreamed of becoming a commercial airline pilot but was tragically killed on April 4, 2018, one month before his graduation. During Zach’s final check ride to obtain his commercial pilot’s license, the small engine plane he was flying crashed after the left wing separated from the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examiner John Azma also perished in the crash. Funds raised from the Set to the Sky Trail Run will directly benefit the Zach Capra Memorial Aviation Scholarship at Embry-Riddle. This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a career in aviation in order to support the dreams of hard-working, compassionate, and goal-oriented young adults like Zach.

WHERE: The start/finish line will be located on the ERAU Track on the east side of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach Campus.

ROUTE: This trail run is a two-loop course that follows portions of the Embry-Riddle cross country course, which is one of the most challenging courses in the state of Florida. It is a true cross country course including all types of terrains, a 150-meter grass hill, mulch trails, and concrete. The two loops add up to a little less than 3 miles, but due to the nature of the course the total distance may be a little shorter or further depending on the GPS being used. The cross-country terrain honors Zach’s home state of Colorado but don’t let that intimidate you! Elite runners, first-timers, and walkers are all welcome! Leashed, well-behaved dogs are also permitted.

ENTRY FEES: General Public: $25.00 through March 10th; $30 from March 11th through March 24th, and $35 on race day.  Current Students: $10 with promo code "ERAUStudent". If using the student rate, student IDs will be checked at packet pick-up. If unable to present a student ID the participant will be asked to reregister on the day of packet pickup at the $35 rate.

DID YOU KNOW: The name “Set to the Sky” pays homage both to Zach’s goal of becoming a pilot and to his Navy service; the phrase comes from the original lyrics to the Navy song “Anchors Aweigh”, which were used from 1906-1997.

Due to the fundraising nature of this race, no refunds are available.
