The 2020 Space Walk of Fame 8K Run, 2 Mile Run, 8 K Walk and 2 Mile Walk will be a Virtual Run only event.
In accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health to limit the potential community spread from Coronavirus, we have decided to ‘ cancel' the Space Walk of Fame 8K and 2 M scheduled for Saturday, April 4. We have two options that we are considering. We can reschedule the SWOF to sometime in late June, July or August. Obviously this will be in the heat of the summer and the threat of hurricanes and/or rain. We would hate to cancel a second time. We also do not know when we will get the all clear with the Coronavirus. We could consider a date in September, October or November but this is the peak of the autumn racing season and will be difficult to come up with a date that does not conflict with races that have a relatively long history. Our other option is to keep the race date of April 4 and change it to a virtual run. Participants can run virtually anytime and anywhere from Saturday, March 21 through Sunday, April 5th. All we would need is an email confirmation from you that you ran or walked the 8K or 2 Miler. Upon your confirmation we will mail you an Apollo 13 commemorative t-shirt along with an Apollo 13 commemorative Finisher medal. We already have the large commemorative Apollo 13 award medals. Since we won’t be tracking your times we will also mail you an award medal but it will not have 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finisher on the award. We understand that, impart, runners and walkers signup for races for the social aspect and for official results, this we cannot get around.
Our preference is to go with the virtual run option but we don’t want to do this if it means this will greatly upset our sponsors and the major portion of our participants. We heard back from all our sponsors. They all agree and occur that the virtual race option is the best course of action.
Bottom line is we will go with the virtual run option. There is nothing you need to do with the exception of sending us your email confirmation. Please let us know if you have major headache about this decision.
