The 2026 Springville 5k is presented in honor of Dennis Godsey, founder and original race director, who passed away in January 2026.
Dennis “Denny” W. Godsey, 79, of Bedford, IN, and formerly of Springville, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 27th, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born September 30, 1946, in Bedford, Indiana, to Ernest Hurstle Godsey and Bernice Kirkman Noel.
A loving husband, father, papaw, son, and brother, Denny loved God, his family, and his community and served them with sincere devotion. He operated to the highest ethical standards and lived his life in a way that honored God and made his family proud. Anyone who was blessed to know him will remember his calm nature, gentle spirit, and quiet sense of humor.
Denny graduated from Oolitic High School, Class of 1964. There he met Frances “Francie” Draus, and they married on February 27th, 1965. Denny was a hard worker. As a young boy, he picked berries, delivered newspapers, and worked at a grocery store before going to work at RCA at the age of 17. He retired from RCA when the plant closed in 1999. He later worked at Stone Crest Golf Course. Denny was a volunteer fireman with the Perry Township Fire Department for over 50 years. He was instrumental in restoring the Springville Gymnasium and starting the Springville Community Park.
Denny loved golfing, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a member and elder at Popcorn Christian Church and loved his church family deeply. He lived what he believed and wanted everyone to know Jesus. He will be greatly missed.
Denny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Francie; a son, Brian Godsey and wife Rebecca; daughters, Leann Herr and husband Robert, and Janice Wisley and husband James; grandchildren Nathan and Morgan Herr, Mackenzie Godsey, and Kate and Luke Wisley; sisters Beverly Keister and Patricia Super (Don); two sisters-in-law, Patti England and Rita Walker; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Darrell in infancy; and brothers-in-law Oland Corey, Danny Lester, Dave Keister, Jerry England, Johnny Draus, and Robert Draus.
