Honoring The Life & Legacy of CPT. Alan Kurre Elliott
Alan lived a life full of purpose and passion, leaving behind an incredible legacy. He served his country with honor and dedication, first in the Navy from 2005-2009, then in the Army from 2015 until his tragic death on July 30, 2023. Alan’s leadership, dedication, work ethic, and perseverance led to many successes throughout his military career. Alan graduated Air Assault, Airborne, and Ranger schools, completed two deployments to the Middle East, and earned several awards and accolades. He made a huge impact on so many, not just at work, but also at home. If you were able to ask Alan what he viewed as his biggest success, he would have said his family. He was an extremely dedicated and loving husband and father.
Alan earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Kentucky in 2013 and 2015, respectively. While in graduate school, he was in the ROTC program and worked as a Teaching Assistant. Alan and I were both TAs in the Kinesiology Department, and we have the program to thank for our meeting. Alan was easily one of the funniest, most caring, charismatic people, who simply radiated genuine positivity and kindness, that I have ever met. I fell for him quickly. Loving Alan is the easiest thing I have ever done. We got married, and had three beautiful children together; Everett James, Raymond Kurre, and Isla Jane, who were only 4, 2, and 1 at the time of Alan’s death.
Alan was full of life, with an unmatched energy, and incredible love for not only his family, but also for the Kentucky Wildcats. Alan was always striving to improve, and to achieve his next goal. At the time of his death, Alan was stationed at Fort Carson, and out on a run not far from our home in Colorado Springs, training for an upcoming tryout for a specialized unit with the Army (his next big goal), as well as an upcoming triathlon, when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. We were left completely devastated. Our whole world shattered. Alan was our world. My soulmate, and our children’s favorite person and playmate. His death has left all who knew him heartbroken, to put it mildly, but his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live life to the fullest and help others in any way we can.
The “CPT. Alan Kurre Elliott Memorial Run” is more than just a race; it is a tribute to a remarkable person, and an opportunity to give back. All proceeds will fund the “CPT. Alan Kurre Elliott Memorial Student Award” for undergraduate students in the Kinesiology Department at the University of Kentucky who embody Alan’s outstanding character. Alan left such a huge, positive impact on the world. He continues to inspire me, and I want to live more like him. Help us to carry on Alan’s legacy, and continue to celebrate his life, by joining us for the race.
Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. I hope to see you there. –Stephanie Elliott
