Firework 5K

July 4 is normally a day of cookouts, patriotism, and fireworks. But due to the current state of the world, 2020 is different than normal. This year, we're going to have a different kind of celebration with the Firework 5K virtual run/walk! With the Firework 5K, you'll receive a commemorative race medal and a pair of American flag-themed crew socks in the weeks following the event.

How does a virtual 5K work, you ask? Unlike a normal 5K, a virtual 5K allows you to run (or walk) in any location. You are able to participate on your own (following social distancing guidelines) at your own speed, starting whenever is convenient for you. Follow the following steps:

1. Register for the Firework 5K virtual run/walk.
2. Between June 29 and July 5, complete a 5K walk or run. You can utilize a GPS watch or a smartphone to record your distance. Runner’s World has a great list of apps you can use (most of which are free) for GPS.
3. Share your virtual 5K experience on social media using #Firework5K and tagging Louisville Running Company and Waterfront Park.
4. Once you’ve completed your 5K, visit our race website to submit your results. Click here for a link showing exactly how to submit results.
5. After the race, you will receive a custom finisher medal and awesome American flag-themed crew socks in the mail to commemorate your Firework 5K experience.
6. All participants who complete the 5K and submit their results will be entered to randomly win a number of prizes from local Louisville businesses.

A portion of proceeds ($5 from each registration) from the Firework 5K will benefit Louisville's Waterfront Park. The Waterfront isn't just a place, it's an experience. An experience that's different for everyone. It's a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. It's a natural haven for quiet reflection. It's an ongoing festival of sounds and sights. It's your favorite band blasting into the night sky. And it's right here, accessible to all. With events being canceled or postponed and funding being cut to agencies like Waterfront Park, our support is needed now more than ever.
