Description

Faith Hope Love Church is hosting a race for our member Ashley Barker who was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  Ashley and her family moved to Somerset 4 years ago by taking a leap of faith as they knew no one.  She started working at the Holiday Inn Express on the breakfast team where Pastor Jeff began mentoring her and nourishing her thirst for spiritual growth, along with his wife Toni.  From there she and her family entered FHL and became members.  2 years ago she committed herself to live life like with elevated faith to transform her spiritually.  With that commitment she and her daughter Gabbi, were baptized together, as Gabbi had been baptized but wanted to do it again with her Mom.  She has become a leader in our Celebrate Recovery mission we all have fallen in love with her.  She took the opportunity starting in the breakfast and quickly began to show her talents and strengths as she moved up to front desk and now general manager for Holiday Inn.  Ashley quickly began to flourish and became a member of the Tourism Commitee in Somerset where she works closely with a team to help find ways to boost the City's tourism.  When she heard the words "cancer" she wept in her mothers jeep and said "I will give myself 48 hours in self pity, then I will rise up ready to fight and put my FAITH OVER FEAR.  I have a choice, to live in FEAR or live by FAITH" - she chose FAITH.  Due to COVID19 and compromised immune system her journey limits her return to work even though she misses and loves her job, and community she cannot take any chances.  A few know her whole story and we all know how resilient and tenacious she is towards living life to it fullest potential.  If you are ever honored to be in her presence, you will not walk a way with out laughing at her twisted humor that is everyone's personal therapy session.  Our strategy team chose October as it is National Breast Cancer Awareness month to host this 5k in her honor and to let her know how much she is loved.  This is a virtual 5k race that you can do at your own time, place, and pace.  A few of the ladies will be meeting downtown Somerset at a specific location and time to run the 5k together for as it is said in the Bible "Iron sharpens Iron" and we are a strong force when we gather together to honor our sister. The date will be set on our FB page so all ladies please join us or call Toni Langford. All proceeds will go towards expenses related to her treatments and loss of wages in hopes to alleviate additional stress.
