Due to the on-going challenges with COVID-19 and the virulence of the more recent Delta variant, Bartlett's Farm and Nantucket Rising will be hosting The Nantucket Island Run for Recovery and the 2 Mile Walk for Recovery as Virtual Events again this year.  The Virtual events will take place over three days from Friday September 17th through Sunday, September 19th, 2021.

Like last year, the VIRTUAL RUNNING AND WALKING EVENTS can take place anywhere.  A Virtual run/walk means that people can run a 5K (3.2 miles) or walk the 2 mile distances on their own, at any time on Friday, Saturday or Sunday September 17th, 18th, or 19th, 2021.  Runners will run the 5K distance (3.2 miles) anywhere on or off the island and clock it on a reliable running app like Strava, Map My Run, Nike Run Club, etc. Once the run has been recorded on the running app, runners can upload the running app information (and any photos of their run) onto this site by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, September 19th, 2021.

For all of the "virtual" walkers, you can walk 2 miles anywhere and please upload photos of your walk onto this site, but walkers will not be timed so there is no need to upload your times.  The walk is simply an opportunity to get outdoors, walk and enjoy the exercise for a great cause!

Both virtual events will take place over the 72 hours starting on Friday, September 17th after midnight and ending Sunday, September 19th, 2021 with enough time to upload the running times by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

This healthy, enjoyable event is a fundraiser for ADDICTION SOLUTIONS OF NANTUCKET - Dr. Lepore’s and Nurse Aline Womack’s Medication Assisted Treatment and Counseling Clinic on Nantucket.

The challenges of Covid-19 have only added to the stressors of addiction and other mental health disorders. During the last two years substance misuse has increased on and off the island.  Overdose deaths increased nationally by 29% from September, 2019 to September 2020 while  Massachusetts showed a 5% increase in opioid-related overdose deaths.  Statistics aside, there is a good chance we all know and love someone who has been deeply impacted by addictive disorders or other mental health challenges.  Our hearts go out to them!

By running, walking, or simply donating to The Nantucket Island Run for Recovery, we can all be part of the solution!

Many thanks!  Have fun and be well!
