Description

Please join DAI in supporting the 2020 virtual Linda Norgrove 5K Fun Run! The Linda Norgrove Foundation is a trust that gives grants to fund education, health, and childcare for women and children affected by the war in Afghanistan. Since 2010, The Foundation has been continuing the work of the late Linda Norgrove, a DAI employee who devoted herself to ensuring prosperity and stability for the people of Afghanistan during the country’s rebuilding process.

This year, the Linda Norgrove Foundation is offering scholarships to young Afghan women to study midwifery in the Bamyan district. The students will study at Resalat Noor Institute of Health Science for two years to qualify as midwives. Proceeds of DAI’s fundraisers will go towards supporting these students.

Linda Norgrove Foundation

The Linda Norgrove Foundation is a trust that provides grants to fund education, health and childcare for women and children affected by the war in Afghanistan. The foundation was set up to honor the memory of Scottish aid worker Linda Norgrove, who worked as a Regional Director in Afghanistan. Linda was kidnapped and subsequently died during a failed rescue attempt in Afghanistan in October 2010. The foundation was established by Linda's parents to support her devotion to ensuring prosperity and stability for the people of Afghanistan during the country's rebuilding process.

DAI organizes various annual fundraising events for the Linda Norgrove Foundation. These events culminate in the 5k Fun Run. This year, the Linda Norgrove Foundation is offering scholarships to young Afghan women to study midwifery in the Bamyan district. They have had 70 applications and their project manager is in Bamyan at the moment to interview and select suitable students. The students will study at Resalat Noor Institute of Health Science for two years to qualify as midwives. Proceeds of DAI’s fundraisers will go towards supporting these students.
