Description
Join us on May 6, 2018 as we run/walk to raise awareness about preventing trauma-related injuries and needed funds to support the delivery of life-saving trauma services in our community.
The University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center (UM PGHC) is a state designated Level II Adult Trauma Center serving the residents of Prince George’s and surrounding counties, and Washington, DC.
With an average of 3,500 trauma patients treated annually and a 97% survival rate, UM PGHC is the second busiest trauma center in the State of Maryland, and the busiest trauma center in the Washington, DC area, treating injuries sustained from falls, motor vehicle crashes, and violent events.
Our mission is to restore quality of life and provide exemplary care for all of our patients while extending services to their families and communities in which they live through service, education and prevention. We fulfill this mission through pre-hospital care, working closely with the paramedics and the local police jurisdictions, and our full clinical team of medical professionals and caseworkers.
Our focus on Injury Prevention includes reaching out to middle and high school students, violence intervention program, balance and strengthening in the elderly to avoid falls, and gun buyback programs to remove weapons from the communities we serve.
