Run For Cash Memorial 5K

Sat June 27, 2020 Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064 US Directions RaceJoy Ready
Rangers Lead the Way

We at CompetitorME and Run for Cash take the health and well being of our participants, volunteers, spectators, and staff very seriously.  With the current fears surrounding COVID-19, we are working with local officials and medical professionals to best understand the impact of our events.

The Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) published Interim Guidance for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) on March 15, states: " recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States."  At this time, we are adhering to Federal, State, and Local mandates which has extended this postponement into May at the earliest.  Additionally, we must balance what is socially responsible with gathering for this event in 2020.

It is with regret, that we are cancelling the Run for Cash event originally scheduled for Saturday,June 27, 2020.  This event has now moved to a Virtual Event.  In an athlete-first policy, we are offering to all registered runners, at no additional cost, the ability to transfer to the Virtual Participant Option.  You will still receive the same event goodies in the mail!

Finally, on behalf of Nancy and Bob, plus us at CompetitorME and, we appreciate the support of our running and endurance event communities.  These are undoubtedly trying times for us all.  We look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can!

Capt. Christopher Scott Cash Sr., died June 24, 2004, in heavy fighting in Iraq while serving in the N.C. National Guard. He was one of three U.S. soldiers who died in Baqubah, a town 35 miles northeast of Baghdad.

A 1985 Old Orchard Beach High School graduate, he was remembered for his athletic excellence and dedication to the military. Cash moved to Old Orchard Beach from Rhode Island when he was 8 years old and grew up in the two-story red house on Cascade Road where his mother Nancy, and stepfather Bob, still live.

At his burial in Pinewood Memorial Park, Cash was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service, a Purple Heart for being injured in battle and a combat infantryman badge for his time spent fighting.

A memorial Service was held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church on July 24th with the Rev. Dr. David Calhoun presiding. A number of presentations were made on behalf of Veterans, State and Federal representatives.  Friends and family shared memories of Chris which included humorous anecdotes and poignant poems.

Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge

This event is proud to be a part of the Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge!

The Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge serves as a collaborative effort to raise awareness of events that continue the legacies of our Nation's Gold Star Families, Military Active Duty, Veterans, and First Responder Heroes.

Our mission is simple: Inspired by Heroes and Connecting Communities.
The goal is to connect civilians with those who have served, and introducing events, stories, and legacies they may never have known. The Service and Sacrifice Series motto is: Remember, Honor, and Inspire.

In 2020, the Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge will be managed by the Honoring Heroes Foundation. The Honoring Heroes Foundation is a 501(c)(3) whose mission aligns with that of the Challenge. The major project of the Foundation is the Maine Gold Star Family Memorial, which will be dedicated from the People of the State of Maine, to the Gold Star Families of Maine and our Nation.

Being a part of the 2020 Service & Sacrifice Series Challenge remains simple and can be done anywhere Worldwide! We’ve added new events to our calendar, including three Virtual Events, that represent 16 total events over 9 months. Eligibility for the Challenge requires participants to register for 10 total events, participate in person or virtually, and earn cool Challenge swag at the end!  For more information, please visit our Website or find us on Facebook!
