Description

Race dates for the 23rd annual Noquemanon Ski Marathon:  January 22nd-24th 2021.

The Noquemanon Ski Marathon has been attracting elite and recreational cross country skiers from across the United States, and around the world, for over two decades. Many thousands of skiers have taken the point to point 50K or 24K adventure from Ishpeming, the birthplace of organized skiing and home to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame, to Marquette along the shores of Lake Superior. The Noquemanon is famous for its rugged and pristine Upper Peninsula wilderness course and its varying terrain. Skiers find hard and soft wood forests, rock outcrops, lake crossings, bird's eye views of rivers and Lake Superior, often plentiful snowfall, a waterfall, adventurous and varying weather conditions (in the same day, at times), and a 1000-foot net descent. Many places on the full marathon course are very remote which adds to the sense of adventure.

In 2021, COVID-19 has caused the race committee to make significant adjustments for our 23rd edition. Full details can be found on our race website at www.noquemanon.com.  Full and Half Marathon courses that start and finish at the same location will be offered over 3 days on the Forestville Trails system  - Friday January 22nd (Freestyle only day), Saturday January 23rd (Classic only day), and Sunday January 24th (mix of Classic and Freestyle). The 12K, Junior Noque, 10K/5K Snowshoe, and Skijour events will be held Saturday January 23rd and Sunday January 24th at Al Quaal Recreation Area which is the traditional start area for the Full Noquemanon Ski Marathon. The Forestville Trail system will give skiers a wilderness experience with challenging terrain that is sure to please.  Al Quaal Recreation Area will offer skiers seeking a shorter event a course all to themselves on ski trains designed for racing.

Please note - there are no refunds allowed for any reason including race cancellation. Entry fees are non-transferable between individuals or to future races.  Due to health and safety reasons this year on-course aid and support will be limited and no warming facilities will be available.  Weather conditions in the Upper Peninsula can, at times, be very challenging and it is up to each individual to evaluate their abilities given the conditions before, and during, the event.
