2020 Watershed Challenge

2020 has been quite a year! With all our current challenges and uncertainty, there is one thing that has allowed us to escape and find some semblance of normal - getting outside and enjoying the numerous lakes, streams, and protected lands in our area.

Grand Traverse Bay and all its waterways make our area truly unique and admired. Celebrate the clean, healthy water our region boasts by participating in the 2020 Watershed Challenge: Grand Traverse Bay Your Way. This virtual challenge encourages people to get outside and bike, swim, run, paddle, or hike to enjoy the amazing natural features our area has to offer. We are confident challenge participants will exceed the goal of 2,020 miles completed so we can accomplish something great together this year.

Whether you are a serious athlete looking for a challenge, a triathlete training to gain strength, a recreational paddler wanting to get out on the water more, or someone looking to spend time with family exploring new places, the 2020 Watershed Challenge is an exciting, fun, community-oriented celebration of clean, healthy water in the Grand Traverse Bay region.

The 2020 Watershed Challenge benefits The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay, a local nonprofit that strives to protect and advocate for clean water in Grand Traverse Bay and all its waterways. The Watershed Center blends their expertise with education, advocacy, collaboration, and solution-oriented actions to serve as a multifaceted resource for our community. The Watershed Center is committed to strengthening our community's bond with the bay, working together to realize our shared desires for a healthy, clean Grand Traverse Bay.

Registration opens Thursday June 25 at 7am EDT and is $40/person or $75 for a family up to 6.

Once you register, you will be able to set your own goals for any activity you want to do (bike, swim, run, paddle, hike) wherever you want to do it between July 25 and August 22. You should log your activities on this site to keep track of your accomplishments, as well as help the 2020 Watershed Challenge community meet its goal of 2,020 miles completed. We also encourage you to share your experiences with us using #2020watershedchallenge on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. There are prizes for distance, activities, families, creative posts, and more so be sure to stay connected.

As soon as the challenge ends on August 22, you will receive a certificate to celebrate your accomplishment. You will also receive your t-shirt and any prizes you may have won in the mail.
