First Day Hike with Piney Woods Conservation Group

PWCG is hosting a First Day Hike on New Year's Day!!! 

Start the new year with adventure by joining us for the First Day Hike on New Year's Day 2025!  This scenic trek on the Black Creek National Recreation Trail is a great way to embrace your new fitness goals, spend time with family and friends, and connect with nature.  Lace up your hiking boots and kickoff the year in the great outdoors!

No experience necessary—just bring your appetite for adventure (and maybe some snacks for the hike *and* after).  For participants who have a few extra minutes to spare after the hike, we'll do a quick cleanup at the recreation area to remove any litter left behind by previous guests - buckets, grabbers and bags will be provided.

De Soto National Forest - Black Creek National Recreation Trail

Big Creek Landing Recreation Area
Approximately 4.75 miles out-and-back
2.5 - 3.0 hours

Excellent views of Black Creek, fall foliage, access to the creek at two sandbars, relatively flat terrain with modest elevation gain in sections.

Recommended supplies - comfortable shoes, water, lunch, snacks, trekking poles, natural bug repellant, hat, cool wicking clothes with warm layers
