🚸 Family-Friendly Option: Looking for a more mellow ride? The CDT trail across the highway offers an out-and-back route that’s scenic and less technical—perfect for families.
⚠️ Important note for parents: This is not your average bike park shuttle. Trails are steep, narrow, loose, and technical in places—backcountry-style riding, not machine-built flow. We strongly recommend riding the trails yourself before deciding if they’re right for your child. Safety and fun come from being well-matched to the terrain.
How do the Saturday shuttles work?
For the more advanced rides: from the ski base area, you'll ride up the dirt access road to the trails. Plan to spend ~2 hrs riding the trail to the bottom of the mountain. Shuttles will begin picking people up from the bottom of the pass from 10am-4pm to return you to the ski base area. Most seasoned riders fit in 2-4 laps.
🛻 Riders load bikes onto flatbed trailers with Huck Wagon-style racks
🧍♀️ You ride up in shuttle vehicles or trucks
🎯 From the ski base area, you ride up to the top and pick your trail down
For the intermediate rides: We'll shuttle you to and from the trails across the highway.
Each shuttle loop holds around 10-20 riders, and we'll keep them moving all day long.
What’s the riding like?
Riding the advanced trails from Lost Trail is raw, rowdy, and super fun. Trails are narrow, rugged, steep, and techy.
You should be comfortable:
- Standing on your bike while descending
- Managing speed and braking on natural terrain
- Navigating rocks, roots, and tight corners
Is it safe?
Mountain biking always carries risk. Here’s what you need to know:
✅ You’re responsible for your own ride choices
✅ We recommend a “Pre-Ride, Re-Ride, Free-Ride” approach
✅ Knee Pads are strongly encouraged
✅ Our team includes trained volunteers and first responders on-site to assist in case of injury
Is there cell service?
📵 Not really. Cell service at Lost Trail Ski Area is very limited to nonexistent. Make your plans with your crew before you arrive and don’t count on texting or posting from the mountain.
Can I rent a bike or gear?
No, there are no rentals available at Lost Trail during the fest. Please bring your own bike and gear.
Nearby rental shops include:
Red Barn Bicycles – Hamilton, MT
Can I ride an e-bike?
eBikes are only permitted on Warm Springs Ridge Trail.
Can I bring a fat bike?
Fat bikes (tires over 3”) typically won’t fit on the shuttle racks. If you’re planning to ride one, we recommend checking with us ahead of time.
Can I bring my dog?
🐕 Well-behaved dogs are allowed in the base area and camping zones, but not on the shuttles or trails during riding hours.
Please clean up after them, and consider their comfort in busy areas.
What’s the refund policy?
Tickets are transferable—if you can’t make it, you’re welcome to transfer your ticket along to future BBC event.
Why is our refund policy so strict?
Lost Trail Bike Fest is a grassroots event. We rely on pre-sales to pay for shuttles, food, permits, and porta-potties. Your ticket keeps us able to hold events—thank you!
