How well do you know Asheville? Not much? A little? Are you an Asheville aficionado? Have you always wanted to visit the area? The Land of the Sky Virtual 5k a Day for 30 Days will give you the opportunity to stay active while also virtually experiencing the different areas of the Asheville community. You don't need to live here to participate!
This is a virtual event designed to be fun and enriching, while also getting you moving. The virtual event begins any time you want on July 1st. You run, walk or hike a 5k each day (in your neighborhood or an area local to you) until July 30th. Tracking of your activities is part of the experience - that's where we will share with you the different areas in Asheville and you will discover the rich history and culture of this area called "Land of the Sky."
100% of all the proceeds from this virtual event will go to programs offered for our local youth by The Joseph Initiative. The Joseph Initiative is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is building programs that focus on commonalities and collaboration, so our youth are better equipped to become thriving community members who care for their neighbors.

We wanted to keep the event price reasonable, so we have been working with Opportunity Center, an Easter Seals Community Rehabilitation Program in Anniston, Alabama, to create an apparel store. Here's the link where you can purchase the official race apparel: https://www.opportunity-center.com/store/brands/joseph-initiative
At the end of the event, everyone who finishes will be placed in a drawing to win gift(s) that have been donated by area businesses. We will also be holding a virtual after-party and are excited to announce that local author Marla Milling will be our guest speaker. Marla is the author of the books, "Legends, Secrets and Mysteries of of Asheville" and "Only in Asheville An Eclectic History" (we will be giving away some signed copies!). She is also a freelance writer with more than 800 articles and essays published in a wide range of magazines, newspapers, websites and anthologies.
