Description

Welcome to the online registration site for the second running of the Point Lookout Lightning 5K, the Fastest 5K in the Southeast! This event is hosted by the McDowell Trails Association, whose vision is the create greenways and trails, and build a better life for generations to come.

START TIME: 10:00AM

LOCATION: Point Lookout Trail, near Old Fort, NC.

THE COURSE: The 5 kilometer point-to-point course starts approximately one mile above Point Lookout and follows the Point Lookout Trail down to the base of the trail, approximately 400 meters from the Old Fort Picnic Area & parking. The course features nearly 900 feet of gradual descent from start to finish.

COURSE SURFACE & PROFILE: The Point Lookout Trail is smoothly paved and fast. It descends gradually for nearly 900 feet with virtually no noticeable rises. A course elevation chart is posted on our web site.

RACE ENTRY FEES: $20 Early Registration (thru October 10) $25 Late Registration (thru October 20). Race tees are guaranteed for all early registrations; shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed after 10/10 or at the race. Entry fee includes shuttle service from the parking area (Old Fort Picnic Area) to the start. 

RACE DAY REGISTRATION: Available at the Old Fort Picnic Area from 8:00am to 9:00am. Please allow sufficient time to register and board the shuttle to the start. Runners who miss the final shuttle must find his or her own transportation to the start. Rides to the start will not be provided after the race!

TIMING, SCORING & RESULTS: The Point Lookout Lightning 5K will be ChampionChip timed by Lee Timing LLC of Morganton, NC. Results will be posted on the Lee Timing Race Calendar & Results page following the event. 

Come out and run your fastest 5K time ever! This race is USA Track & Field certified (pending), so even though it might not be eligible for state, national, or world records (the course drop exceeds the limit of 1 meter per kilometer), it is a true -- certified -- 5,000 meter (5K) course!
