Description

Celebrate Pride and show your support for the LGBTQIA+ community by joining us for the first Pride Stride 5K & Family Fun Run, in Little Falls, NY.

What better way to start off your Little Falls Pride Saturday than with a morning 5K (3.1 mile) LGBTQIA+ fun run? You'll be joined by runners from the Mohawk Valley and beyond as you race through Little Falls. Feel free to run in your most colorful and festive gear!

Register by Thursday, May 27 to receive a race t-shirt. Adult registration $20, 16 and under $5. Packet pickup and day of registration is 8:15-8:45am near the starting line.

COVID Restrictions: The race will have three waves of 20 runners per wave. Runners bibs will have a 1, 2, or 3 written on them to indicate which wave they’re in. The first wave will start at 9:00AM, the second at 9:05AM, and the third at 9:10AM. There will be a simple sign marking a “holding pen” at the top end of Western Park. The second wave runners will gather at this sign at 9:00; the third wave will gather at 9:05. As the wave ahead of them leaves the starting line, the next wave will move from the pen to the starting line. Masks are required in the pen and at the starting line. We will do our best to make sure that family members are in the same waves. Runners may remove their masks during the race.

Proceeds from the Pride Stride 5K & Family Fun Run will directly benefit Little Falls Community Outreach's Rainbow Club.

UPDATE - New info on the race route: The starting line will be at the corner of Jackson Street and Gansevoort Street. Runners will continue on Gansevoort St., turning left onto Salisbury St. and an immediate right onto Loomis Street. Stay on Loomis St. until you reach the historic marker sign for the Italian Community Bake Oven, where you'll turn around and head the other way on Loomis St. Turn left onto Ray Street, then right onto Burwell St. Stay on Burwell until it becomes Gansevoort, and continue on to finish where the race started.

The Little Falls Community Outreach grew out of a community project organized by the First Presbyterian Church in the summer of 1992. With $400 in donations and the cooperation of the school district employees and church volunteers, 57 backpacks were purchased, filled with school supplies and basic hygiene items, and distributed to the children of Little Falls who had severe needs at the start of the fall semester, thus giving them a ‘fresh start’.
As work progressed on Project Fresh Start, it became apparent to those involved that with a broader-based community effort, more could be accomplished to meet the humanitarian needs of our city’s children and families. To that end, a meeting was held at the First Presbyterian Church in the spring of 1993 for the purpose of identifying the community needs and establishing an organization to address them. With $19,000 in support from churches, local businesses, and civic clubs, LFCO was founded using as its corporate motto the old African proverb: “It takes a whole community to raise a child.”
Fast forward 29 years later and we are still responding to community needs with eight distinct programs, the largest of which is the food backpack program, serving 76 children per week. We have a budget of nearly $60,000, four part-time employees, and dedicated volunteers. We are grateful every day to serve the Little Falls and surrounding communities.
