Description
Amy was a wonderful mother, friend, Christian and accomplished Ultra runner. She was a 50 Mile Beast, a two time Sehgahunda finisher to name just a few of her many athletic accomplishments. She was about the best darn long running partner anyone could ask for. We lost her to a medical emergency on 3/27/2018. Amy was a mom of three and we all miss her dearly. Her annual 6-Hour event will help raise some funds for the American Lung Association, in her name, for 2020. The charity was important to her and her family. Her father was a lung transplant recipient and a kind Patriarch who passed shortly after Amy.
The race is a six hour event on a 1.1 mile out and back in Durand Eastman Park on Lake Ontario (each loop totaling 2.2 miles). The first quarter mile is along the lake shore, then crosses over a wooden bridge and heads into a wooded section. The second half of the course is gradually uphill (which means downhill on the return!) and will end at water stop near Culver Rd. It is a paved trail wide enough for perhaps five runners abreast. There is lots of public parking, and the race will start near a large lot across from Log Cabin Rd. Our race is timed by hand to keep costs low. We lap count at start and at the turn around at Culver Rd.
A Porta John will be located near the race start, based on race count we may add a second one this year. We will have an aide station at the start - because we are trying to minimize race costs, please bring a goodie/beverage favorite as a donation to be shared and appreciated by all runners. We are a cup free event but will have water to refill your hand held bottle of choice at the start and turn around. We also bring coffee and donuts to race start.
A couple of special features of our race include:
A raffle of many items TBA between now and race day. You will get an arms length with your registration and can buy more race day. All proceeds will go to the American Lung Association. You must be present at the end of the event to win.
Our any-time start/stop ability. So that you can run as much or as little as you desire with time span flexibility.
Our 2.2 mile course means 6 laps is just over a half marathon (13.2) and 12 laps is a full (26.4)!
Please consider coming and running/walking a bit with us. You will find the crowd to be one of the best around WNY. Come run or walk one loop or run the entire event to reach an ultra distance! Our course is gorgeous, and it is for a wonderful cause.
Warmly,
Your Amigas, Allison and Katherine
