Description
A wide expanse of hard-packed sand stretches from the cliffs of Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain south to Nehalem Bay Jetty. Cape Lookout to the south & Neah-Kah-Nie to the north provide aphotoesque finish. Come see why so many are calling this "One of the most scenic runs in the region!" The race begins at the foot of the Laneda Avenue, that runs through the center of Manzanita, on the sandy shores of Manzanita Beach. Runners begin in a single start heading south towards Nehalem Bay Jetty. Runners will then change course and head back north towards a photoesque finish of Neahkahnie Mountain meeting the sands of Manzanita Beach. Mile markers and volunteers on course provide direction for runners on turn arounds as well as aid. There wil be music playing to pump runners up for their event as well as snacks afterwards for runners to refuel on. Awards for top finishers as well a raffle for prizes will be held afterwards.
North County Recreation District
The historic building, originally a school, was designed by renowned Portland architect AE Doyle and built in the early 1920’s. A 30×75 foot swimming pool, gymnasium, 300-seat auditorium and additional classrooms were added in 1930. In 1988, the local school district discontinued its use and Tillamook Bay Community College leased the facility. At the same time, the notion of a comprehensive community center came into being with various volunteer groups running aquatic, fitness, adult and youth programs. When the college withdrew as leaseholder in 1994, the volunteer groups organized to form a recreation district and NCRD was born. In 2002, NCRD acquired ownership of the property in a land swap brokered by Tillamook County.
The growing programs we provide today fulfill the vision of the early volunteer groups. It is our continued mission to promote the educational, recreational, social and physical well-being of the entire north Tillamook County community by offering activities for all ages and abilities in an inviting environment.
NCRD strives to bring quality programs, activities and service to every member of the community. You will find unlimited opportunity within the walls of this historic facility for many interests and abilities. FromAdult Enrichment to Fitness and Health classes, Youth Enrichment to Aquatic classes, activities are designed for each individual’s health, education and well-being. A variety of classes, including many of our fitness, yoga and aquatic classes, are offered in conjunction with Tillamook Bay Community College and OSU Extension.
We are centrally located one-block off Hwy. 101 in Nehalem, within a 5-minute drive from Nehalem Bay State Park, downtown Wheeler or downtown Manzanita. Drop-ins are always welcome! View ourschedules and stop by for a visit.
