The Frozen Snot will be held on February 20, 2021. Due to a variety of factors, it will not be rescheduled to a different date due to inclement weather, hazardous driving conditions, or COVID-19. We reserve the right to cancel the event if we believe that holding the event would pose a significant health and safety risk due to inclement weather or COVID-19. If the event is cancelled, there will be NO REFUNDS. If The Frozen Snot is cancelled, entry fees minus any costs we have incurred will be split between the City of Lock Haven Park’s Department fund for watershed improvements for recreation, ReVibe Gear, and Alzheimer's Association. In the event of a cancellation, swag will be able to picked up for 15 days after February 20th at a location to be designated. You may pick up swag for friends, but swag will NOT be mailed.
𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄 – 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄: Unfortunately, we lost the reserve center as our base for this year (and likely the future). It is our understanding that the reserve center will be closing sometime in 2021. Due to this, this year’s event will be an OUTDOOR event. The fantastic folks at Restless Oaks have agreed to allow us to use their pavilion, which we will try to weatherize as much as possible. If you are in the area, please stop in, grab some good grub and THANK THEM for their hospitality. This year’s event would NOT be possible without them.
Please be aware that we WILL be following (AND expecting you to follow) ALL state and local guidelines regarding COVID-19, as well as our FS COVID-19 Plan, which is required and approved by DCNR. We take COVID-19 – as well as the health and safety of runners and volunteers – very seriously. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has issued specific event occupancy information as well as a travel restriction. The travel restriction is as follows:

𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓:
We are requesting that each runner and/or volunteer do their due diligence by completing this self-screening. You should NOT attend the event if:
• You have a fever of ≥ 100.4F on the day of the event.
• You have had any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, such as a new or continuous cough, fever, shortness of breath, or loss of taste/smell.
• You have been in contact with anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
• You have travelled within the past 14 days to any location with widespread ongoing local COVID-19 transmission.
• If you have experienced any of these, please contact us, and stay home.
• We will have two options for pick-up:
o 6:00-8:00p Friday night (2/19) at Oregon Hill Winery McElhattan
o Starting at 6:00a Saturday morning at the Restless Oaks pavilion
• Participants MUST practice social distancing (6 ft. apart) and wear a mask or appropriate face covering (and wear it correctly – over the mouth and nose, etc.) at all times at registration the night before, and day-of before and after the race.
• Participants must sign a COVID-19 waiver and get their temperature taken before getting their race bib. Temperature must not exceed 100.4 degrees or participant must leave the premises.
• Out-of-state participants will also be required to sign a waiver indicating that they have either received a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of entering the state or have quarantined for 10 days upon entry.
• Breakfast items will be provided – menu TBD.
• Our event is limited to 250 participants. There will be no waitlist.
• While we normally appreciate your friends and family coming out to support this little thing we do, and we understand that many of you travel from all corners of PA and may need someone to drive you after your legs experience the pain of a mile of elevation gain, we respectfully ask that you leave the whole family/large groups at home.
• Again, this is a COMPLETELY OUTDOOR EVENT. If you don’t want to sit outside or in your car all day while you wait for your loved one to finish the race, we will provide links and information about other things to do in the area in the coming weeks.
• The race starts at 7:30a. There will be no pre-race announcements; instead, we will send all relevant information in an e-mail 7-10 days prior to the event.
• Falcon Race Timing will have a count-down clock set up so that all runners can see when the race is about to begin. We ask that runners not congregate at the start/finish until 5 minutes prior to the beginning of the race. This allows us to remain in accordance with the CDC recommendations of prolonged exposure. Please try to maintain social distancing at this time.
𝐃𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄:
• Runners must carry a face covering with them the entire race.
• Runners should maintain social distancing (6 ft) while running the event. We expect that this will not be difficult due the makeup of the course.
• Aid station volunteers (and all volunteers on the course) are required to wear masks.
• As runners approach an aid station, they MUST put on their face covering.
• We will provide single serving, pre-packaged snacks such as gels, cookies, and chips which volunteers will hand to runners. Runners should NOT grab items off of the table themselves.
• Runners are encouraged to carry their own water but water will be available at the aid stations. Participants will hold their pack and allow a volunteer to push the spigot or pour the water into their pack.
• Again, a face covering is required before and after the event.
• Food and refreshments will be available after the race – menu TBD.
• Participants must socially distance if staying after the race.
• There will be no awards given out after this event.
• Since this is a completely outdoor event, there will be no showers available to runners.
Lastly (but certainly not least), treat the volunteers with RESPECT. Take a second to thank them, smile at them, and/or let them know you appreciate them. Coming from a group who man multiple aid stations throughout the trail running season, these little interactions can make a lasting impression and may influence if the volunteers come back to do it again. They are giving up their Saturday to serve you all. This (or any) event could not occur without them. Some of the volunteers will be putting in upwards of a 12 hour day on race day. Others have put in countless hours to help prepare for the event. If a volunteer asks you to put on or pull up your face covering, refrain from touching items at the aid stations, be mindful of social distancing, etc. DO NOT ARGUE WITH THEM. Just do it. If you have an issue with something regarding the event or a decision that has been made, please see RD Luke Ebeling about it. DO NOT vent or take frustration/anger out on the volunteers. Failure to follow any of the above COVID-19 mitigation procedures and/or disrespect to our volunteers may result in a 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐍 from The Frozen Snot.
ɴᴏᴡ ꜰᴏʀ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴏɴ-ᴄᴏᴠɪᴅ-ʀᴇʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ ɪɴꜰᴏʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ʏᴏᴜ ɴᴇᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴋɴᴏᴡ ᴘʀɪᴏʀ ᴛᴏ ꜱɪɢɴɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ!
• This IS NOT a beginner friendly event. The course is very technical, has A LOT of elevation gain and loss over very few miles. There are boulder fields, steep descents, and could have any combination of snow/ice/mud (depending on the weather). All participants are REQUIRED to have available (wearing or in your pack) some sort of traction device, such as Kahtoola Microspikes, Hillsound Trail Crampons, Yaktrax or "screw shoes" (shoes with short sheet metal screws in the sole to provide traction.)
• Also, if you generally don't use trekking poles, you may want to reconsider for The Frozen Snot. And remember - two poles are more than twice as effective as one. If the East Kammerdiner Run is not frozen you should have dry socks in your pack. Wet feet and cold temperatures can lead to frostbite.
• Running or hiking in winter conditions on a challenging course requires preparation and planning for your clothing and gear. You are responsible for making good choices for yourself. We strongly recommend NO COTTON clothing whatsoever. Once wet with sweat, rain, snow or ice you can get hypothermic very quickly. In mild weather you can easily get away with poor or uninformed choices; winter is a different ball game. The race director reserves the right to not let a person start if he feels that an entrant is not suitably equipped or dressed.
• So what is The Frozen Snot? It is a 8.3 or 13.5-mile trek, trail run, hike, adventure race or whatever you want to call it. In 2015 we started to morph the event more toward an adventure race as not much of the course is all that runable. We have selected the worst that Bald Eagle Mountain provides and scheduled it during what is usually the coldest week of the year. It is aimed at the hardcore trail runner and hardy hiker. By hardcore we don't mean "elite" or necessarily fast, but rather a person that is ready for the most daunting course we could devise in these parts. The day could be freezing rain on top of a foot of snow or it might just be a bracing, bright winter's day out on a hard and fast rocky surface.
• A fair amount of the route is on established trails used by the Boulder Beast. Some of the route, though, travels ground that is really only passable (except to the diehard bushwacker) in the winter. The course will be well-marked, but not "manicured." Expect four stream crossings which may, or may not, be frozen.
• You can choose the regular course (about 13.5 miles) or, by popular demand, a "short course" of about 8.3 miles. Choose your preference when you register. Historically, one of the (semi) unique things about this event is the ability to either drop down from full to half course or to increase from half to full during the event. In all the years that we have done this, it has been 99. 9% the former and not the latter. FOR THIS YEAR, we will not be permitting runners to increase from half course to full; runners can ONLY drop down from the full to half course.
• There are no bib transfers or bandits for this event.
