Description
This race, whose scenic course runs past the Occoquan River at Belmont Bay development in Woodbridge, Va., takes its theme from the famous horse race that occurs on the same date. There are special horse-themed medals awards Win (1st), Place (2nd) and Show (3rd) in the respective age groups: 12 and younger, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+.
Much like the winning horse that receives a blanket of white carnations, the overall male and female winner in the 5k receive a bouquet of white carnations in addition to a medal.
Other chances to win: a medal goes to the participant with the best horse name on his or her running bib and to the woman with the best bonnet.
The race will start promptly at 8 a.m on June 7, 2014. Race-day registration and packet pickup will be available from 7 to 7:40 a.m. at the race start, near 570 Harbor Side St, Woodbridge, VA, 22191 (outside Belmont Bay's Harbor Master building.) Parking available in marina lot and in the lot across the street.
