Winfield Community Food Pantry 5k

Description

Every year we gather around Island Park to run fast and raise money for our local food pantry. As you know, 2020 has prevented us from partaking in this annual tradition. However we still wanted to create something to get excited about, something to train for and something that also gives back to our community...so we're introducing the Virtual Run! Unlike gathering in person, you're able to run anytime and anywhere you'd like - but bonus points if you run up the big hill and back! You can run with your favorite group or solo, just stay COVID safe, friends. As always, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Winfield Community Food Pantry so they can further their mission of providing necessities for families within our community.

Here's how it works:

  • Pick your distance (sign up for the 5k or 10k)
  • You'll receive an email reminder when the virtual race "starts" on October 1
  • Run your race on your own terms (you pick the course, the date, the time)
  • Submit your results by email or on this event page ("results" tab)
  • Results must be submitted by October 31

What's the swag?

  • Personalized virtual bib and finisher's certificate
  • Socially-distant warm fuzzies
  • Immense gratitude from the Winfield Community Food Pantry and those they serve
  • An excuse to enjoy the beautiful weather and vibrant colors of fall

Entry Fees:

  • Virtual 5k - $15
  • Virtual 10k - $15
  • Suggested donation - $10

Here's how you can help:

  • Donations of toilet paper, hygiene products, and non-perishable foods can be dropped off locally at Walnut Valley Outpost, 107 E 7th Ave, Winfield KS.

FAQs

FAQs

What is a virtual run?

Our version of a virtual run is an event that can be run (or walked) on your terms.  You pick the time, the date (within our two week event timeframe), and the course.  As long as you are using recommended safety precautions, you can do your virtual run anywhere – sidewalk, track, trail, treadmill…it all counts.

What’s the course/where should I run?

There is no set course this year, so you are free to map out your own and have fun with it!  Be sure to follow CDC guidelines and keep 6 feet away from others during your run.

Will this race be timed?

Not officially.  You can complete your chosen distance (5k or 10k) at your own pace, and time yourself.  (Example ways to track:  picture of treadmill screen, MapMyRun, Garmin, AppleWatch, Fitbit, etc.).  We’d love for you to upload your results, but we are not tracking for top finishers this year.  Because everyone will be running/walking different routes with varying elevation and terrain, we are not giving out awards based on fastest times.

How do I post my results to prove I did it?

You can upload your results directly to this event page.  Instructions will be sent out when the event opens on October 1st.  We want to celebrate your times with you, but because everyone will be running different courses, we will not be giving out awards based on fastest times this year.

Do I have to post my time?

We’d love to give you a virtual high-five for completing your run or walk.  If you don’t want to post your time, that’s okay; it isn’t required.  If you don’t want to post your time but DO want a virtual high-five, you can go to the results page and mark that you finished without being required to enter a time.

Can I run with a stroller?  What about my dog?

Strollers and dogs are welcome this year, as long as you feel safe and are able to maintain appropriate distancing from baby- and dog-lovers you encounter along your route.  Strollers and dogs are both discouraged if you chose to participate on a treadmill.

Is there a rain out date?

You’ve got the full month to pick a day with weather that suits you best.
