Many of you have joined us for the past two years and I thank you for the great success. I began this walk to help all of those with Lyme disease find support from their friends, family, and community. Often those with Lyme are too sick to attend a fundraiser like this, so let's all come together and show our support for those we love. Lyme disease is the fastest growing vector-borne infectious disease in the United States. There is no accurate testing. And at least 40% of those with Lyme end up with long term health problems. Treatment is expensive and most of the time is not covered by insurance. Our loved ones with this disease need our help to fight for coverage, education, and research to conquer this disease. The average person with Lyme sees 5 doctors within 2 years before being diagnosed, so education of our local physicians is a necessary action. The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation is dedicated to training physicians to treat this disease and "fund clinical research studies that directly impact the quality of patient care." My dad has been battling this disease for about 7+ years now and I have seen what this disease can do and how the Lyme community is treated. We need to stand up and help battle the unbelievers and ignorant insurance companies and fight so our loved ones living with Lyme can regain some of what has been lost. I thank you for standing with me in this fight! All proceeds this year will go locally to the Central Mass Lyme Foundation.
