Description

Lakad Tayo! (Let's Walk) is a 5K walkathon to fundraise for community pantries in the Philippines. We hope to raise $20,000 for various community pantries in the Philippines so that they can continue to provide in their respective communities.

Background on Community Pantries: 

Community pantries in the Philippines arose during the COVID-19 pandemic to help alleviate the plight of families who are experiencing severe hunger, poverty, and unemployment. Many of them started out small; volunteers would set up a stand to give away free produce in their neighborhood for example. However, as COVID-19 continued to ravage the Philippines, the pantries grew and eventually became the lifelines of support for families and individuals who have no one to turn to. As sustaining these volunteer-ran pantries can be a challenge in itself, the 5K was designed so that we can support the organizers in their efforts to serve the community.

Date & Location

The 5K Walkathon will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Bladensburg Waterfront Park along the Anacostia River. The trail is primarily on paved surfaces with a small number of inclines and declines and should be relatively easy for participants. The trail will be shared with other walkers, runners, and bikers. No part of the trail crosses streets with motor vehicles. The entire length of the walk is 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles. Limited parking is available on site; however, we strongly recommend that you carpool, take public transportation, or walk if you live in the neighboring towns. 

Times

The Walkathon is divided into three different sessions, each capped at 60 participants to accommodate social distancing and park regulations. Session 1 is from 8AM-10AM, Session 2 is from 10:30AM-12:30PM, and Session 3 is from 1:00PM-3:00PM. You will be able to select a session time when you register. 

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

  • If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, have come into contact with someone known to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days, please STAY HOME.
  • All participants are required to have a face mask in hand with them at all times, regardless of vaccination status. You will need to wear a face mask upon arrival at the event, and while interacting with Walkathon volunteers or park officials 
  • We ask that all participants follow the recommendations of public health officials and the requirements of government regulations.
 

Registration

We ask all interested participants to register via runsignup.com. You can pick a session time that works best for you. Registration costs are $25 + $2.45 processing cost per person. We encourage you all to sign up in teams to alleviate the processing fees. You can learn more by clicking on the Group/Teams icon on the left side of this page.

Becoming A Sponsor

Businesses, organizations and individuals also have the opportunity to become official sponsors for the 5k Fundraising Walkathon. Sponsors will have the opportunity to table at the event to promote their work, as well as be recognized in our promotional materials. Depending on the sponsorship level, they can also receive walkathon slots, sponsored merchandise, and more! Fundraising

Organizations and individuals who would like to support in our fundraising, but do not want to necessarily commit to being a sponsor, can also raise money on behalf of the community pantries in the Philippines.
