Description

(Many a ship is lost in sight of the harbor - Old Irish Proverb.  Contemporary moral - just because the CoVid vaccine is coming soon does not mean you should relax your guard)

The Celtic Solstice announces the Saint Patrick's Day virtual run presented by Falls Road Running Store and Feet First Sports. The options are 5k, 5 miles,  or 17K (10.6 miles).   Here is a great excuse to get out and kick start your 2021 running.

As is a virtual event, it can be run anywhere.  Your virtual course is along the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland (banner photo by Teemu Vidgren).  When you finish the event you will be able to click on a virtual map link and see your progress along the cliff path - very awesome views from Ireland!

The virtual races will be open from Saturday March 13th until Sunday March 21st, 2021.  This will give you plenty of opportunities to run or walk a distance and post your virtual results.  You can also post your pictures online here.  The results may be entered in stages so that you may log a partial distance on different days until your goal is reached.

The race entry is $10, with options to purchase premium race shirts. The race processing fees will be charged 50/50 between the runner and the race managment..  $5 of each entry will be donated via the Celtic Star 501c3  and the proceeds evenly divided to the Skip Viragh Center for Pancreatic Cancer at Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Irish Charities of Maryland. You may choose to make and additional contribution to one or the other beneficiaries during the registration process.  You will receive an email from the Celtic Star for your tax records.

There are options for a 5K, a 5 mile, and a 17k virtual Saint Patrick's Day Run.  The optional premium running shirt features a brand new logo from Celtic Solstice artist Cari Buziak.  Instead of shamrocks and leprechauns the theme will feature Saint Patrick driving the corona virus out of the land. You will order the shirt separately during the registration process.

You print out your custom digital bib number by visiting your profile page at runsignup.com.  At the far right lower corner is a link to "View Digital Bib".  It will have your name and assigned bib number.  Print it out in the safety of your own home and wear during the virtual run.

The map of the point-to-point course along the Cliffs of Moher is provided is provided in the MapMyRun link underneath the directions box.  Ignore the directions box, it just shows you a map of the world.

Here is a Baltimore ten- mile course on the Jones Falls Trail/East Coast Greenway for your consideration.  Even though the starting point on this map is at Clipper Mill and Union Avenue, you can start anywhere.  The basic concept is an out and back route from the Kelly Avenue bridge in Mount Washington crossing over the new pedestrian/bike bridges over Northern Parkway and Cold Spring Lane all the way down to the spot where the Jones Falls goes underground beneath the North Avenue overpass.
