Description
The sixteen (16) week Half Marathon Training Program is geared towards walkers and runners who would like to challenge themselves and safely build mileage and endurance to complete a half marathon (13.1 miles). The program will offer the benefits of improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced adverse health factors, and safe training methods. The target graduation race is the Richmond Half Marathon on November 11th, or any local fall half marathon you desire.
Program Structure: The program consists of four (4) workouts per week, in which all participants are encouraged to complete. Workouts include group runs with the coaches, joining existing club runs, and also optional independent runs. Key workouts will include long runs on Sundays at 7 am (meeting point at Mission BBQ in Greenbelt). We also recommend that participants join standing club workouts on either Tuesday 6:30 pm Ludwig Field in College Park, or Thursday’s 6:30 pm at Herbert Wells Ice Rink for the second/third workout. Further scheduled workouts will include hill and strength work at Greenbelt Park on Saturday mornings at 7 am. Coaches and/or Pace Leaders will attend the workouts with participants.
Program Requirements:
- Participants must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to walk/run 3 miles
- Active PGRC Club membership status
- Participants are required to volunteer at one club event during the program.
