The Big Elk 5K course (course may change but will still be 5Kish) in Fair Hills Natural Resource Management Area, Elkton, MD is your proving grounds for up to 8-hours Saturday October 5, 2019.
The concept is simple; complete as many loops as you can on the 5K course from 7AM to 3PM.
The execution is not so easy.
The mental fortitude required to get yourself beyond where that voice in your head keeps saying "I'm done!," is a formidable foe. You can train your body physically for your goal distance. But if you take your bib off at any point before the 8-hour time limit ends, did you really push yourself beyond your comfort zone? Did you stop because you were tired, or were you really done? Did you prove something to yourself this day? The Big Elk Proving Grounds are where this all happens!
The judge and jury this day are between your ears. Do one loop or do ten. Whatever brings you a feeling of accomplishment. We'll be there all day to provide you with a stocked aid station, some music, and hopefully some motivation to help you push beyond where you thought you'd finish.
Course:To break up the monotony and add to the adventure in your pursuit of this day, your course will change direction on odd/even loops. Odd loops will be counterclockwise, Even- clockwise. Every 2 completed loops is 7ish miles and over 1000 feet of elevation! Better bring your A-game!MAP/GPX
Awards: All finishers will receive a custom inscribed finishers award with their completed distance on it. Custom prize to the boy and girl that run the most completed loops within the 8-hour limit.
Party:It's on like Donkey Kong. Bring your lawn chairs, pitch your tent, and get your crew to tag along with you. We start at 7AM and the music won't stop until 3PM! The Big Elk is a big autumn hang. Bring your favorite beverages to drink and your fave meats or veggies to grill. The aid station will be fully stocked for the duration of the event with gels, water, Gatorade, pretzels, and many other goodies to keep you going for 8-hours!
