Place
Lutherville Timonium, MD US 21093
Description
Beneficiary:
On December 13, 2021, the Dulaney community was struck by a tragedy. During the school day, there was a murder-suicide resulting from a domestic dispute approximately 100 feet from Dulaney High School. The community was in shock. The Interact Club decided to research this issue, and found that over 5,200 cases of domestic violence per year are reported to the Baltimore County Police Department. This number does not even account for the many cases that go unreported. In addition, domestic abuse has spiked during the pandemic, up nearly one-third in Baltimore City alone as the pandemic made it more difficult for victims to leave their abusers. After recognizing the extent of the issue in our own community, the Dulaney High School Interact Club has decided to create this virtual 5k to raise money for the House of Ruth. House of Ruth is a domestic violence center in Baltimore, MD dedicated to ending violence against women and children. House of Ruth provides victims with services to rebuild their lives, and confront attitudes, behaviors, and systems that perpetuate their situation. A small amount of the funds will also go to the Dulaney High School Interact Club, to assist the club in conducting service projects within the Lutherville-Timonium area.

Tips for a Successful 5k
- Plan your route (https://onthegomap.com is a great website for this)
- Drink plenty of water
- Don’t eat a large meal right before you run, a small snack is ok
- Run with a friend, it can help to make the run more exciting and fun
- Pace yourself, a 5k is not a sprint, try to keep a steady pace you can maintain until you feel ready to go faster
- Warm up before you run, a light jog or walk will help to get your muscles ready to run
- Make sure to stretch afterwards so you don’t get muscle cramps later
