Description

Please join us for the Be Kind to Your Mind Wellness Challenge! This event is organized by Catoctin High School's student-led Mental Health Awareness Club. Our club was formed by students in Spring 2020 at Catoctin High School, and we had planned our inaugural Be Kind to Your Mind 5K in May 2020. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately we had to cancel our 2020 event. This time, we are going virtual! We are hosting a wellness challenge for the entire month of May! Choose one of the challenge options to sign up and join the fun!

This event is being held to bring attention and awareness to the severe needs of our community. We are a small mountain town nestled into the mountains of Frederick County, Maryland. The students and staff of Catoctin High have experienced a significant impact from the epidemics of suicide, mental illness, and substance abuse. Our community has had too much loss and not enough intervention. We chose the month of May because it is identified as Mental Health Awareness Month. We will be focusing all month on bringing awareness and support to our community.

Our primary goal is to raise money for the Mental Health Awareness Club to promote mental health interventions in our community. Any funds raised will go to the Mental Health Awareness Club to be used for our wellness initiatives. They will be used to hold community events, school-based incentives, and work to build mental health awareness with students, staff, and the community as a whole.

Our second goal is to have fun! This is not meant to be a high-stakes race. Join us and walk, run, skip, jump, or dance your way to the finish line. Throughout the month of May you can submit your activity on our race website. We will be posting daily challenges to keep our participants active and engaged. There will also be drawings held throughout the event. At the end of the event, prizes will be given to top participants in the challenge.

Registration is FREE for all participants.
Because we are virtual, we are aiming to get as much participation and growth as possible!

Race Swag:
The first 200 people registered to participate will earn a finisher's medal. Finisher's medals will be available for pick up at CHS following the end of the challenge. If you want your medal shipped to you, you can order shipping from the swag shop.
Visit our swag shop to order an event t-shirt or an MHAC mask. Keep an eye out for additional swag added as the event gets closer.

Donations:
Because we are a school-organized event, and we are not charging registration fees, we are encouraging any donations to the cause and fundraising efforts by participants. Please see the donations page for more information.
